We have a worker who was transferring a small load of laundry from the washer to the dryer. Somehow in that process she hurt her back and wound up going to the hospital by ambulance. I work for a convenience store and she was washing a load of aprons.
Does the store have to pay for the ambulance? It's not my money, of course but it seems like such a small injury to go by ambulance for - It seems like a friend could have driven her
If hurt on company time, doing company work, it's workers comp.
Did she go with an order for drug testing?
That was the very first form filled out when anyone got hurt.

Ok interesting. I am curious how this will play out.
My thing is...she was not doing anything she should have been hurt doing. If she had fallen, tripped, picked up something heavy etc I would be more sympathetic.

Back injuries are funny. You can simply turn a certain way and throw your back out. And that is a weird motion, moving clothes from washer to dryer.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
On my way to work one morning a few years ago, I threw out my back sitting down in my car and adjusting the way I was sitting. I cam back, had DH get in the car (since I could not move) and drove myself to the ER. Probably a mistake to do it that way but I only wanted to move once.

I had thought that someone had pulled up an old thread by accident and then realized it was a new thread. I hope the woman is okay and that the business is covered, though!

I got hurt at work while just standing there. I was watching a vendor load equipment and got hit in the face with an electrical cord by a maintenance guy a few feet away. That's kinda the thing about accidents, they happen in ways we don't plan for.
I don't remember a thread about this previously, but it's entirely possible that I missed it.
Regarding the question in the OP, I agree with the others here. Ambulance, and Worker's Compensation claim. Any injury on the job qualifies, as long as it was "during the performance of your work". Even unexpected or surprising ones.
Thanks guys - I did start a thread on another board. I was just curious about opinions. I guess it's one of those better safe than sorry type things. It came back up because the ambulance company called about billing yesterday (they have to talk to the manager and I am not she)
The employee is unreliable. She failed to show for work 3 days ago after talking to someone and saying she would be right there. Not sure how the manager is going to handle that.

That is a tough one. The boss should tread carefully about firing her when she may have a worker's comp claim. Document her being unreliable, not calling in, etc.

I'm glad that things are working out, and now I'm curious about that 'injury'. Did it happen immediately following her getting past probation or getting benefits?
