he didn't apologize for one thing--he invoked the Creator's blessing--he talked of the American spirit, of pride, of hope and of returning to the policies that will take care of us--all of us--first and foremost
sincere and direct--bravo

While I did not want Trump to be President, I do not want him to fail. What I want is for him to keep his word, as best as he can and not make promises he cannot keep.
I want the Affordable Care Act or whatever will replace it to work. I do not want to lose certain parts of it like pre-existing conditions. I want there to be healthcare providers available for whatever plan is designed. I do not want people to be penalized because they cannot afford it. And yes, I want it to be affordable.
I want Trump to succeed in not pissing off our allies and becoming too friendly with those who are not. I do not want to see him make a mockery of the people of this country, whether they support him or not. We need to take care of our country and not divide it any more than it already is.
I do not want an overhaul of Social Security and Medicare. I want to see the funds that were borrowed by previous Republicans paid back so that they can be a viable system for the people who paid in to the system - it is not a handout or welfare program.
I would love to see an overhaul to the political system to the House and Senate. Term limits and getting rid of their golden plans.
I would love to see people who have experience be put in charge of the different departments. Nothing against Ben Carson but a neurosurgeon in charge of housing? The don't have to have political ties but at least have some experience in the field they are supposed to be in charge of.
I don't understand why you blame the SS issue on Rebubs. It isn't their fault, Reagan addressed it first wanting to privatize it, then Bush. This SS thing is a hot issue. I actually think it should be dismantled except for the medical component.
I do want a 12 year term limit for all pols.
Ben Carson for housing is due to his experience with inner city and his smarts.
I know it is not the only issue for Social Security but Reagan took money, Bush took money away from the SS Surplus. Government Owes $2.7 Trillion to Social Security. According to Bush, Bush downplayed the importance of the Trust Fund. Some in our country think that Social Security is a trust fund – in other words, there's a pile of money being accumulated. That's just simply not true. The money – payroll taxes going into the Social Security are spent. They're spent on benefits and they're spent on government programs. There is no trust.
So, where is the SS money that people have paid into? And why does the Government keep talking about how it will be out of funds to pay out benefits and that they want to reduce benefits? This is money that you and I have paid into. I do not expect there to be funds to pay out if/when I am able to retire. It sould never have been used to pay out on other government programs. They robbed Peter to pay Paul. Eventually, Peter will want his money and there is none.

SS definitely needs to be phased out. There was a proposal at one time that people my age (40s) would keep paying in and not withdrawing if our children (20s) would not be forced to pay. I support that wholeheartedly. If my children can be free of the farce that is SS, I would gladly take it on the chin. I have no illusion that SS will be there for me when I retire. I have made other plans.
Get rid of it.

To quote a former GT Member "it is a Pozi scheme" . since the birth rate has dropped, there are fewer people to pay into it. It is as simple as that.

And now come the comparison pictures of obamas inauguration to trumps inauguration.
My reply on FB to this pic was that it is a funny thing that a pic of the DJT crowd had to be taken at 7 am so it compared to the height of the inauguration crowd during the swearing in for O. FAKE NEWS!

My ex SIL is going nuts. She has been on various welfare programs her entire life so she didn't work more than a PT job. She is now 60, qualifies for nothing and is mad because her meal ticket is gone. Well get A FRiCKiNG JOB!

She just needs to get on disability now. Oh wait, you're not in California LOL...
If they don't like Trump, nothing is stopping them from leaving to another country. They should go to North Korea or China and see how much freedom they'll get.

I would add Saudi Arabia, Iran, Quatar, and any Arab nation to that list.

I think this is the third time I've watched Shutter Island.
It's so stupid.

Well, I went to the inauguration in 2001 and have that to compare this one with. There were far more people this time than in 2001. Far more. Yes, there were a lot of protesters. I stepped on and over a few to get in. The Trump supporters far outnumbered the protesters.
You were there, next to that thing, and there was a guy in front of you with a hickydoo.
Hehehe....

How were the manners of the Trump supportetrs? My dd said that at Obama's inauguration after singing about love and unity after it was over people were cursing at people to get out of their way and left trash all over the place.
They were great, Lindley. Everyone was respective of each other. Lots of "excuse me" "pardon me" when making out way out, etc. The crowd started to leave after the Address but during the Rabbi's benediction. A lot if not most people stopped when Evancho started singing the National Anthem and took of their red hats and put hands on their chest and faced the big screens until she was finished.
The ones without manners were the protesters. Not all, some were very peaceful. A lot were peaceful. But the loudmouths that were not permitted inside the secured area were very obnoxious and violent. They congregated at K & 12th. We walked past them on our way in, but took a different metro going home. I followed the Army men and women as far as permitted and was surrounded with protection!
