Air fryers

I'm thinking about getting one...but not sure about size.  I would like to be able to fry 4 or 5 chicken thighs at one time.  Or enough cut up potatoes to serve 4.   I don't want to spend too much, as I am not sure how much use it will get.

Any recommendations?  Recipes?  Ideas?

Love, love, love the air fryer!

He fires it up. Chicken tenders, French fries, onion rings.....

Mozzarella sticks.

Are we talking homemade and not just for heating up frozen prepared meals? Not judging, just curious.

Both ways. If I want a little chicken finger I may buy Perdue or he'll slice thin, bread crumb (seasoned) and pop them in. I saw an ad over the weekend for mac & cheese in it.

5-7 minutes, I think. I have never used it. You heat it up while prepping and it is all ready to go. Easy clean, too. No mess, no drama, no small parts.

I do not have one, but have heard that breaded with flour is not as successful as breaded with bread crumbs

The last thing I need are more kitchen things (I have 2 cupboards. One is above the stove. - Oh, and two under the sink but they have no sides and are deep enough to put a body in. I can't put anything in them or I'll never see it again!

It's kind of like a mini convection oven. So far I've only used my stuff to cook frozen stuff, but I love it. Makes super crispy French fries, onion rings, etc. also, mine doesn't have to preheat, you just turn it on and 10 minutes later you have crispy fries.

I'm excited to try making potato chips. I love slightly burnt chips, so making my own is great.

I have a convection toaster oven. Maybe I'll just figure out how to use the convection feature.

I think the pan has something to do with it too. It's like a fryer basket with holes. That helps with the crisping.

This is very true.  Flour coated chicken was a bust.  Bread crumbs were awesome.

Fries are Yum and crisp.

Is there anything besides seasonings that potatoes need to achieve crispy fries?

For three medium potatoes, it called for (and I added) a teaspoon of oil.

I have got to stop using jasmine rice in the cooker. It's mushy. Might make good sushi rice!

Tignanello, it sounds like you are using too much water. Try making it according to directions, but go shy on the water by a bit.

Okay. Seeing as I have a bazillion cups of rice left, I'll try that.

I always had mushy rice too, and now I use 1 cup rice to 1 1/2 cups of water (and if I need more, then go up in same amounts and it works great)  rice always turns out perfect

Thanks, jlbear. I'm still contemplating.

I use the same proportion, riding. I think I use more for brown rice, however. But with the instant pot, I follow the hippressurecooking.com directions. Last night I made risotto and it was 1:2 ratio.

Just don't make my mistake.  Even though it is only the two of us, I got the smaller one.  I should have gotten the bigger one.

Oh, it's so easy. Basic parm risotto: Saute half an onion, diced, in a little butter, toast the arborio rice, pour a splash of white wine and scrape bits off bottom, add chicken broth (1:2 ratio), set for 7 minutes, natural release for 10 minutes. Voila!  Stir in a bit of parmesan cheese and salt/pepper to taste.

OMG those sucker are expensive. I went to the Mall on Saturday to see if there were any sales, nope, perhaps a mere 15% off. Even online there seems to be no deals. I am not paying $200+ for any small appliance, well sure for my Kitchen aid mixer, but that gets a lot of use!
