I need a new vacuum. I would like to get a cannister vac with a bag. I hate bagless. Looking at a Kenmore. Any suggestions. I like the tools to store easily on board.
The Oreck seems to need constant maintenance. Belt changes, my motor housing cracked, the brush roll had to be replaced. Ugg. I actually had to buy a service plan for it. And the bags are expensive.

I've not had any issues with mine at all and I've had it for about seven or eight years. I found an online place to get the bags and didn't think they were terribly expensive considering how many I got. lol I guess I should knock on wood, eh? lol
I inherited an oreck when I married DH. We have an upright as well as the cannister. I'll use it for a quick pick-up in the basement. They are so lightweight. I like that about them. I also had a bagless which I hated because there were so many things on it to clean and maintain. I got the Miele because of it's airtight HEPA system when the boys were diagnosed with allergies.
I admit to being pretty abusive to vacuum cleaners and all I have had did well with no problems. For awhile I was using the Miele several times a week. Now that the allergies aren't as much of a problem, I seldom vacuum as I have cleaning ladies that come.
I am looking at the Miele. How is the power head on it and beater bar? It looks a bit flimsy and less substantial than the Kenmore. Also, no headlight on it. Not that i need that but it's kinda nice.
OK. I had some vacuum adventures. Bought a Kenmore cannister vac. When i got it home and looked at it, the dust bag is now in a tiny compartment of the vac. Basically you shove the bag in a small half area and the bag folds over on itself with no room to expand in the space it is alloted. It is the STUPIEDST engineering design i have ever seen! I just can't even. My old, old , old Kenmore from bygone years had the full space for the bag. Now, they have just made the vacs look more fancy with a lot of onboard tool storage and decided to sacrifice the bag area space for that.

Well the thing with Meile is you pick out your basic model, and then you can add features. I have the canister. Love it, will get the model number tomorrow for you. The most important thing is for you to find a Meile dealer and go there and have them educate you about the product and options. You will love the vacuum, no doubt.

Uprights are good if all you have is a rancher and all you vacuum are carpets.. Cannisters are good if you have stairs, need to vacuum furniture, draperies, etc.

Yep. And the Meile is lightweight, easy to move between flights of stairs.

I bought a Miele online from Amazon. It is very lightweight and works great. It was more pricey than the others, but I have had so many vacs that just break, i was sick of it, so hopefully spending a few extra bucks will pay off.
I love my Kenmore Intuition. I use the hepa cloth style bags with it. They cost a little more than than the paper bags, but well worth the price. Even though it's an upright, the attachments are convenient and easy to use.

I cant remember the last time I had a bag vaccume. I had a dyson for about 10 years and just this year got a Shark and I LOVE it much more than my dyson.
If I had a choice tho, I would get a rainbow. The canister is filled with water and all the dust and dirt go into the water and then you dump the water.

See, that would annoy me b/c it wouldn't be good for a quick run through or small areas. I mean, unless you are doing a full cleaning of the house every time you vacuum, dealing with dumping that water every time you use your vacuum would be a PITA.

Yep. Total pain the the arse to be sure! (my mom was ocd clean growing up and did almost spring cleaning on a weekly basis, so I know the pains)
On the other hand, seeing the dirt and dust go in and not seep out at the seams of the vaccume is a wonderful thing. Knowing 100% that all the dirt is being captured and NOT escaping was a DREAM.
