Well, I am sure most of them did. My GreatGrandfather became a citizen. My GreatGrandmother did not. But GGpop benefited and worked with the New Deal program. They also has assistance from the local church. So while not Welfare as we know it, it was what existed at the time.
Actually, several of my relatives benefits from the New Deal programs that were created after the Depression.
I understand now Nordstrom's is cancelling Ivanka's line. Bastards.
They also said it has nothing to do with customer pressure it is more about slumping sales. Not sure I believe that. Won't matter to Ivanka. She can sell her line of clothes and accessories herself or exclusive to another retailer. It is Nordstrom's loss if her line was doing well.

That new deal program helped to create our highway infrastructure that was so badly needed. It wasn't welfare. Those people worked hard. And way back when, it was the church and immigrants within the community that helped newer immigrants.

Yes, it was badly needed after the Depression. Yes, part of it was a form of welfare. Creating infrastructure was only part of the New Deal (Actually, there were two New Deals). It also provided for unemployment, Social Security and several other program subsidies.
I get to go home early too. Snow is picking up and I'm not driving a highway like the one I have to drive in the dark. I wouldn't be sitting here now, but waiting on a phone call from the boss, so need to at least pretend like I'm here. ...

Are you home yet?
Hope it was a safe drive for you.

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.
Our temps are falling faster than a Cadillac over a cliff!
It was 50 at 4, it's 36 now, with a real feel of 26.
Monster is shivering.
I want SPRING!

The bolded. My Maternal GM HATED the new deal portion that dealt with welfare, etc. She HATED Eleanor Roosevelt for that law. When I was born, my name was supposed to be one name but my father, as joke, named me and my GM was livid. Guess my name.

Speaking of names...my name has 2 common spellings, I use the less common of the 2, so my name gets misspelled a lot. Doesn't really bug me too much. But this cracks me up, just got copied on an email from one of the engineers. He's telling one of the other guys to ask me for help on a project and he spelled my name both ways in the same email lol

Ha! I guess he wanted to cover his bases. My name gets spelled wrong all the time, it doesn't bother me unless it's someone who should know, like family or close friends.

Social security and unemployment actually make you WORK first. Program subsidies made JOBS.
You know that just about every other country won't let you immigrate unless you have a way to support yourself? You don't get to move to a country to mooch.
