A Florida woman is being told to take down her Blue Lives Matter flag that's been flying for several years now by her homeowners association.
Jeff Gaddie told Action News Jacksonville that his daughter in St. Johns County has been flying the flag to honor him and many other family members who are law enforcement.
"She called to ask why," Gaddie said. "They told her they had received a complaint that it was considered racist, offensive and anti-Black Lives Matter,” he said.
The association asked the woman, who did not want to be identified for fear of backlash, to submit a request for permission to fly the flag, which has since been denied.
Action News Jacksonville reached out to the First Coast Association Management, which said only American and military-themed flags are allowed to fly in the neighborhood, even though there are other types of flags flying.
Gaddie says the flag is only a show of support and the family is planning to appeal the decision at the next homeowner's association meeting.

Is it a home owners association? They get a group of people in charge and become little dictators. They should just worry about whether or not you are mowing your lawn and no rusty cars in the yard and leave homeowners alone.
probably an HOA policy--when we lived in austin, was on the board of our HOA and the policy was clear and specific--NO political statements/slogans/banners on HOA property--the only flags that were allowed were national/state ensigns and had to conform to a specific size limitation--nothing else was allowed--hell, we flew the southern cross for a while and of course the lone star but both met the size restrictions and we had zero issues with the neighbors

I could never live in a neighborhood that gave others the right to tell me what I can and can not have on my property.
Just couldn't do it.

when you live in a condominium community it pretty well goes with the territory--the common areas anyway--in a single-family neighborhood, no way---agree with you

I lived in apartments for about 6 months, hated it with a passion.
I'm a country girl, right now the houses in this subdivision are too close for my liking.

I love our new neighborhood, HOA and all. We have it pretty great. It keeps our values up. I HATE the slobs who can't be bothered to keep their yards even basically neat. We are fining someone $50 a day right now because of the mess in their yard that would probably take less than an hour to clean up. I sent them a detailed letter outlining what they needed to do and they did nothing. They leave their trash can on the road for days. They are horrible.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
We have a self imposed HOA. Its just a given that your trash cans be put away. Lawns are well tended. We pay a lady to keep up the entrance to the subdivision (payment is 100% voluntary, no one even knows who gives her money and who doesn't), we have block parties where we close off a cul de sac no police need to be involved. We just respect each other. The kids play in each others yards. I don't care. I love watching them play outside.
