The way I see it, the only ones doing that are the ones offended by this.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. However, you can do this without marginalizing over half of the population (50.9% female, according to 2010 census data).
He's not marginalizing anyone. If people can't do their job without going to dinner with someone - they suck at their job.

It's not a question of "can't do their job" though. It's a question of equal access. Can a male member of the Senate have a private, working lunch or dinner, with him? If the answer is yes, then it's not equal access if a female member of the Senate can't. And all they suck at, in that case, is possessing an attached penis.
People have a right to equal treatment regardless of gender though.
Not for who someone dines with. The life is still theirs. They don't have to socialize with anyone they don't want to.
Even in the workplace, prudence regarding the opposite sex is required to avoid bad situations. As an example, I do not have to be alone with male clients I don't feel comfortable being alone with. Does that make me unprofessional? I've yet to feel uncomfortable being alone with a female client. And male doctors often won't examine female patients without a nurse in the room.
You can decry gender separation all you want - it doesn't alter reality and the dangers of dealing with members of the opposite sex who create a hostile environment or have the potential to damage your reputation.
In Pence's situation, I would NEVER be alone with a politicized liberal woman. Too many of them have proven willing to lie about sexual impropriety for political gain.

What would equal treatment be if your (general) husband took a female colleague to dinner at a nice restaurant. They discussed their business over a meal and ****tails. Dinner is done, bill is paid and your husband is walking the female colleague to her car. As they approach and he starts to wish her a safe drive home, she starts screaming as if he's attacking her. Before anyone else shows up to help, she hits herself in the face with the car door and falls to her knees to scrape them on the macadam. People start to arrive to defend her and your husband is hauled off by the police.

There's a difference between "socializing" and a "working lunch" or "working dinner". You clearly either do not understand the difference or choose to not see the difference. Either way, it has become pointless to argue about it further at this point.
He treats women as lesser than men by taking away avenues of access to him from people, but only if they are women. You accept it. I don't.

That's not equal treatment though, because the gentleman wouldn't walk another gentleman to his car and wish him a safe ride home. They would go their own separate ways as soon as they departed the restaurant's doors (if they even arrived at the doors together, it's just as likely that they wouldn't leave together as it is that they would). Possibly with a hearty "see you at the office tomorrow" included somewhere, but that's about it.

That's a pretty stereotypical description of the world's view of men . . . if you ask me. Is that your brand of equal treatment regardless of gender? It's sad the men you've been around, apparently, don't look out for each other or hope for a safe drive home after a night of drinks and inebriation. I rather like the men in my area where they do look out for each other because they actually care; they do tell each other to have a safe drive home.
I guess chivalry IS dead in today's world, LL. I'll try to remember that if I ever hear a woman, or a man, screaming for help.
He is not - it's just something to bitch about. There is no reason Pence has to go out to dinner with other women. NONE.
There is no reason he has to go out to dinner with anyone.
It always gets me how the ones complaining the most about inequality are the biggest perpetrators.

His choice. Everybody, even public servants, get to choose who they have dinner with and who they don't. It doesn't matter what anyone who isn't Vice President Pence says.

Oh Bull. How does not going to dinner ALONE with someone make you less accessible? They can still go to dinner, just not alone. There is nothing in the world wrong with that.

I think I said something like this already but I don't recall hearing about any of our presidents or vice presidents having dinner meetings one on one with any women employees or dignitaries
They always have another staff around them. So he be fine. Otay!
I wonder how many times Pence has refused to have a meal, alone, with a woman besides his wife, over the years?
Why has it NEVER been an issue until now?
