OK - seriously, I have no doubt that over the years he has made passes at women, told off color jokes, etc., but THIS kind of thing - stupid. He called women blonde and said there were so many he couldn't keep their names straight. So frickin' what. And apparently it's ok to call him Archie Bunker or a neanderthal, but not for him to say he can't remember all the women's names because so many of them have blond hair.
“Bill O’Reilly was Fox News, he had so much power,” Powers said, “and it was sort of unthinkable that he would ever leave there, except on his own terms. And I did his show regularly, you know, for a long time, and I was thinking about an incident that had happened early on in my career there where I was on-air there with Margaret Hoover, who’s at CNN now, on a regular segment, we were on every Monday. And he got Margaret’s name wrong, and Margaret said, ‘Hey, get my name right,’ and he said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, there’s a lot of blondes in this operation, I can’t keep you all straight. Megyn Kelly’s coming up,’ starts throwing all these blondes’ names. And at the end of the segment, says, ‘Thank you for your blondeness,’ to both of us.”
“So I went to his executive producer,” she continued, “and I said ‘He needs to apologize and he needs to never do that again. Or I’m not doing his show anymore.’ And I was told, ‘Well you know Bill, there’s nothing we can do about it, he’s a throwback. He’s kind of an Archie Bunker.’
“And I said, ‘Well, if you mean he’s a neanderthal, then we’re on the same page,’ ” she said. “He can never do that again. I’m a political analyst here. Went to Bill, came back, he said, ‘No, he’s not going to apologize.’ “

Now - here's the thing. Fox News and Bill O'Reilly paid off FIVE women over the years. That tells me a couple of things - first of all, if there was legitimacy to these complaints and they were not just avoiding an unwarranted scandal, he should have been fired years ago. As an employer, to cover up FIVE cases of sexual harassment is insane. So I have to think these were questionable accusations that were easier to pay off and keep quiet than to deal with.
Second - I'm QUITE certain that they had confidentiality agreements. Those women took money to not make public accusations against Bill O'Reilly, and now they have violated that confidentiality. Obviously - money was more important to them than the principal or whatever accusations they made. I rarely give credence to unproven accusations only brought out years later when it is difficult to disprove. I mean, who remembers details from 15 years ago enough to be able to name witnesses to help you dispute something. Do you know where you were on July 10, 2004?
There is a reason the law has statutes of limitations on matters. Witnesses die, memories fade, it becomes difficult to defend. Accusations do not equal guilt, and the public forgets that all too easily.
Rich men are always vulnerable to these types of accusations (hence Pence being VERY smart), and they are just about impossible to disprove.

Our controller forgets my name. I've worked here 4 years and I'm still occasionally "what's her name" or "you know, the short one". It's no big deal, we have a good laugh about it.
It seems the whole situation should have been dealt with a long time ago.

Are you sure the paid off women came forward? It was my understanding that this is the grudge from a now CNN reporter.
I am bad with names. I screw up my boys' names all the times. I don't know the names of over half of the people on my floor. I used to be better, but as I get older....maybe early onset Alzheimers is to blame, who knows. Maybe names aren't as important to me....
O'Reilly is definitely old school, and I see nothing wrong with that. And from what I've seen, his comments were flip, sporadic, mild, and did not rise to the level of sexual harassment.
This was an all out witch hunt for a top conservative head, lead by the Murdock brothers.
He never groped, fondled, or slept with any of the so called accusers.
When words get you fired, then why didn't the ubber left get all bent out of shape over Bill Clinton's affairs? Why not? Clinton is ubber liberal and they can't attack their own ilk.
It's all about whose side you are on.
I have the phone number for Fox news if anyone wants it.

Well, if calling women BLONDE is sexual harassment......

Who all was in the store? What conversations did you have? Did you make any off-color jokes, or sexual innuendos in front of others? Did you leer or grunt at anyone?

Actually, there's probably enough smoke here that the man is probably guilty and I absolutely believe he's an arrogant *******. But it has never been proven, and it bothers me that a smear campaign can ruin a man when nobody ever bothered to actually go forward with their case.
And when people go forward with things like that blonde comment - it just makes it look baseless. That kind of stupid stuff does not help at all.

I had just found out that I was pregnant. The tailor asked how big would I be in two months. I looked down at her and glared at the ridiculousness of her question. We decided that leaving the front a tad loose would work. I then signed up for a credit card at the store and the sales girl made a comment about my income to which I took offense. I told her to work hard in life and one day she would make more money. Staffing at the store was 4 bride dressers , 2 cashiers, 1 greeter, and 1 tailor. My guess on customer count is 23.😎

Well, obviously, that was not a run of the mill day for you.

July 10, 2004, I was watching my DH play softball with his company. They were short a couple players, so one of the wives joined in, and asked me to hold her 9 month old daughter and keep an eye on the other two while she was out in the field.
I have in one of my folders, pictures from that game which is how I remember. LOL

And neither is a day that someone assaulted you on or if you witnessed someone being assaulted or harassed.

None of the accusations against him are assault. They are all crude and lewd talking.

Well, if the accusations in the first settled lawsuit were true, Fox News should have fired him then. Of course, he denied it, and they chose to believe him and keep him.
When women allow themselves to be bought off when stuff like that is true, they help perpetuate the ability to let it happen again.
I won't be crying myself to sleep over the loss of Bill O'Reilly, but if those accusations are true - he should have had to face it years ago.

Ok - that is what I'm talking about. Other than the "Hot Chocolate" remark, which was out of line - but hardly harassment, the fact that he grunted sometimes when she was around means nothing. How does she know he doesn't grunt when she's not around?

I agree that with 5 payoffs there's definitely something fishy going on. As a company you settle one suit without admission, maybe two, "because it's cheaper and easier to settle than fight".
But after that, if you don't already know and are actively covering it up, you investigate and put a stop to it, one way or the other. Prove all claims are bogus and start counter suing, or find out that they have merit and then clean house.
