I wouldn't do it so I agree with that.
Just saying I've heard of much more accidents due to alcohol
I'm not saying pot smokers never have accidents mind you.

I think there is a reason for that.  Alcohol is legal, therefore easier to get and easier to consume.  I know a handful of smot pokers (that's a name I as called in HS), but I know only a handful of people that DON'T drink.  You have most accidents because more people do it...

Make it legal.  Make society more responsible for themselves.

The contact high mentioned is also something I've never experienced.

CLAM BAKE!!!!!!

To smoke marijuana in an enclosed vehicle, causing the vehicle to fill up with smoke. This achieves a better high because no smoke is wasted in the process, and is usually done with a blunt or a joint. This is known as clam baking.

OK - this is not comparable.   Texting is in the moment.   A stoned person's reflexes can be affected for hours, even when they think the buzz has worn off.

I heard somewhere, I can't remember where and I can't find the proof of it, but most accidents caused in the morning are caused by people that are still under the influence from the night before. They had not slept off the drunk...

 We called it hot boxing.

But if you're good, there is next to nothing exhaled.

Sorry... but what does alcohol have to do with this debate? Why does the repercussions of another pandoras box that is already open have ANY thing to do with whether or not to open another pandora's box? That is like saying well, alcohol is legal and causes tons of deaths a year, so we might as well allow all forms of drugs. Cocain, heroin, meth... heck, lets make everything legal cuz after all, death can occur in any instance from any problem.

So Mass voters chose to legalize pot. Mass is a very liberal state. they will be placing a 17% sales tax! What a bunch of money grabbers!

The problem those pushing to legalize pot are not thinking about, is the crap the FDA is going to do with it.

It won't be as good.

Sorry.

But back yard home grown is way better than anything from a "pharm farm".

Govt cares about one thing, money. Can they tax this and make money off it. That's it. They can preach a lot of baloney about safety that they don't really believe but it's all about cashing in.

There's no way people will accept that they should be responsible for their choices. Haven't you ever participated in a thread where people got drunk and had consensual sex, but it wasn't the woman's fault because they were both drunk, so it was rape?

Well, actually, part of the premise and belief of America is that people can Self Govern. That people will mostly do the right things. The tipping point for society comes as we have more and more people who are lawless. No amount of laws control lawless people. Then you have to have more and more of a police state.

 I believe that, ohfour.

When I worked Saturdays, I had to be in at 8:30 a.m. Driving on the interstate was dangerous.

LOL WYSIWYG, I'll never tell what state I was in when I posted! (Well ok, I was in California... biggrin  )

But yes, I agree with you - personal accountability has given way to no accountability whatsoever.

On a side note, similar issue, there is a couple from India who own and operate a Shell station/Mini mart near where I live.  It's convenient to stop there twice a month to get dad his "chew".  Dad's a major stroke and brain surgery survivor and will be 82 in July, so chewing tobacco is not an issue for me - he enjoys it, so I get it for him.

Anyway, this man's father, 92 years old, just recently moved from India to live with this couple.  The old gentleman is very old school in his views, as you may guess.  He simply cannot understand why opium isn't readily available at the drug store - back where he's from, it's the best chronic pain reliever around and not a big deal.  Here he has to settle for Norco, which is not only not nearly as effective as what he's used to, but it also causes chronic constipation.

Is it wrong for a society to allow citizens to use natural plants for medicine?  For relaxation?  In the privacy of their own home?  Lots of issues there, but I think everyone can see that I fall firmly into the 'let us be accountable for ourselves and stay out of our personal lives' group.

I know people who smoke a little every day.

They work full time jobs, raise families, own everything they have, are good people.

For them, a little smoke in the evening is no different than a glass or two of wine or a couple beers.

It really is up to the individual how they handle it.

DH smokes just about every night.
He runs the family business , works like a dog so his sister and other family members have insurance. (Long story)
His family would be screwed if he decided to do something else as his parents can't run it anymore I am cool with him having a smoke. I don't need anything that will give me more munchies so I very rarely partake.
