I remember at some point there was a weed killer recipe posted. I remember vinegar and I think salt.

We have a gravel driveway and get lots of grass and weeds. I thought I would give this natural thing a try.

Someone help! Thanks!

Does it matter which kind of vinegar?

And thank you! I want to spray everything while my parents are gone. Surprise mom when she gets home

Yep, but get the good sprayer,I have a sprayer labeled for the weed killer and one for the deck cleaner, don't want to mix chemicals! With this organic type recipe you may have to re apply. Depends on if your property has been treated with chemicals, if so, the weeds may not die with this recipe.

She has used heavy duty chemical weed killers in the past. Like the, wear gloves and long sleeves or else chemicals. If we don't need to do that, I think that would be great

This should be applied in the morning, after any
dew has evaporated. By the end of the day, the
weeds will be drooping, on their last legs.

You may want to re-apply this after each time it
rains. Natural, inexpensive, and harmless to
pets.

Does this apply to moss as well?

It would be worth a try, Vette.

(I don't know, for sure. But, even straight vinegar, will kill a lot of stuff, in Texas.)

The thing with the chemicals, weeds become resistant.  The heartier weeds will need a few applications of the vinegar mix.

In my experience, vinegar does work, but it only works a few days the weeds then pop up 3 days later. So, you will spending a lot of time dumping vinegar. However, it is very cheap to buy gallons of it a Walmart.

I just saw something called Preen, that you might want to look into.

That will happen with vinegar alone - but not if you add the salt.  Use vinegar alone where you want to plant something else, use with salt if you are trying to destroy growth altogether.

Preen is great, but it only prevents weeds, it doesn't kill weeds already rooted. Unfortunately for us in snow country, by the time the snow all melts the weeds are already coming up so tough to get a time frame to put down the Preen.

When I first saw this title I though it would be a spinoff from the legalized marijuana thread.

I used to use Preen and loved it. I have some, just wait too long to apply it. Next sunny day I'll lay some down. We just have so much yard, it doesn't go very far. But it will help. I like the kind that has fertilizer in it. Two jobs at once!

I used preen in my flower beds but realized my roses started looking more and more sickly. Alas, I had to get rid of the preen and just suck it up and weed like a normal person. Thanks for the weed killer recipe tho! I AM gonna use it!

I always thought it was regular salt.  But it's not the salt alone - it's salt mixed with vinegar.

Yes, it needs to be Epsom salt. It has magnesium to help penetrate the cell wall of the plant.

I also use apple cider vinegar. Seems to be more potent. Well, to me anyway. Especially on dandelions.

I saw something somewhere else on the net that adding lemon juice makes the vinegar even more potent!

I feel like a mad scientist now. haha!
