*sigh*

Sis just texted me and wanted to know if I, my mother, DD and the kids wanted to come to a condo on the beach that she has been given us of the first weekend in June.  Now, normally, I would say HELL no.  But there is a lot going on in the family and I think it MAY do them some good.  This would most likely be my mother's last vacation, and most certainly the last one to the beach.  DD is having a rough time parenting two toddlers (nothing major) but she just really needs a break.

This is all 100% free.  The condo, the food, the beach chairs, everything but the gas.

But then, it's my sister...

My train of thinking is that I will be so busy with the babies and mother, I won't have time for her shenanigans...

I would bit my tongue and go.

Focus on your grand babies and daughter, and your mom.

Make it great for your mom.

okay...okay. I thought I might get some acting childish support here, but I guess not. LOL! It's not like I'm having to spend the week with my ex-husband! HA!

DD doesn't know if she can get the time off. And that is recital week which makes it even harder.

I still may go and take mother. She would love nothing NOTHING more than to spend a weekend at the beach with her two girls...

So, I just actually talked to my sister. (first time in months).....

DD will probably not be able to go. Sweetness's Spring recital in May 31st. Rehearsal is the 29th, dress rehearsal is the 30th. She has to take all 3 of those days off. She doesn't have enough time to take the whole week off. (Been there, done that)

BUT, if it's just me and mother, I can use my Southwest points to fly us there. Sis would pick us up at the airport and we would have a full 3 days on the beach, she would drive us back Sunday. We can take our time and mother can get out and walk as much as she needs to.

The clincher is that 6/6 is mother's 70th birthday. This would rock her world.

So, yes, I am going. I am taking about 50 books on my Kindle and drinking. LOL!

Thanks for the support guys!

Instead of her picking you up at the airport, rent a car.  That way you will be able escape when needed.  It sucks having to depend on rides for whatever you want to do from someone you don't quite trust.

But I don't WANT to go anywhere!  Set my fat arse on the beach for 3 days and I'm good.  There are several NICE restaurants within walking distance.  One I get there, I ain't leaving.

Oh, I won't have to make up drama.  I'm sure Sis will do SOMETHING to make everyone mad. Like saying lights out in the entire unit at 6:30 P.M.  (Yes, she has actually done that before...HUGE fight, she wound up leaving when I told her that she was NOT going to make me turn off the LR TV at 6:30)

I think anything that happens beachside is always better.

I rarely watch TV when at the beach, I'm usually on the balcony just staring into the wide expanse of ocean.

Anyway.

Go and enjoy the time with your mom.

And get me some cool shells!

Pleasewink

Oh, I am the same way, Lil!
I USUSALLY never have the TV on, even late at night, I will sit on the balcony and smoke and read.
But this one night, there was a HECK of a storm. Couldn't even sit on the covered balcony. The kids were teenagers (hers and mine). We had put a DVD in to watch.
She goes to bed at about 6:30 every night. EVERY NIGHT. Its totally weird, but hey, it's Sis.
She came out of her room and ordered everyone to bed. Said she could not sleep with ANY racket (normal volume, this also precluded games). I told her that me and my kids were NOT going to bed. She went NUTS. I mean NUTS. All the kids were crying, I was telling her that she was BSC.
So she took her kids and left.
We didn't speak for months. But this has gone on for our entire lives...

Mom's 70th birthday! Magnificent!

How about .....

7 golf tees
7 different tea bags
7 different T-shirts - really nice ones, from
you, DD, and the grands

Don't know if they are still in existence, but
also some 70 watt lightbulbs.

We have a few with Sweetness,  none with Bruiser. We actually have one of Sweetness, DD, me, mother, and my grandmothers sister  (her sister and best friend). So we have 5 generations, just not a direct line. Its in the family Bible.

I may be late chiming in on this, but I say "Yes. Do DARE!" If this is to be the last trip with Mom, then make it with her. You can't regret the good things you do, only the good things that you failed to do.

I'd even go so far as to include sucking it up if sis gets out of line, so that Mom can have as enjoyable of a trip as possible (once the trip is over, and Mom is not in range, feel free to unload on her like an AC-130 on an enemy stronghold).

I am in the middle of a fight with my sis too. It sux when you have family that you cannot see eye to eye with anything. I just need a serious break from her drama.
