Professor Wants Children to Learn ‘Queer Theory’ in Elementary School

A professor at the University of Arizona who conducts research on science education is arguing that students should be taught “queen theory” in elementary school.

Kristin Gunckel, a professor at the University of Arizona, argued on behalf of introducing “queer theory” into American elementary school curriculum in a recent lecture that took place last month.

“Queer theory,” according to Gunckel, examines why heterosexuality is portrayed as the “only normal and natural form” for human beings.

“It challenges categorical thinking and specifically aims to disrupt the hetero/homo binary,” she wrote. “Queer theory examines how the social construction of sexuality is normalized so that heterosexuality is portrayed as the only normal and natural form of being human.”

“Queering science education means exploding binary gender and sexuality constructions, collapsing heteronormativity, and opening spaces within science education for the marginalized identities,” she adds.

Heteronormativity is defined as “denoting or relating to a world view that promotes heterosexuality as the normal or preferred sexual orientation.

In an academic research paper, Gunckel wrote that “school science plays a strong role in silencing queer identities and limiting science knowledge and learning.”

“In elementary school, it means not hiding sexuality from children. At all levels, it means providing space within the curriculum for students to see themselves and their families. Queering science education means making the invisible visible,” Gunckel wrote.

How about schools stick to teaching "R"eading, w"R"iting and a"R"ithmetic (you know, the three "R's")?

The perverting of our young children has been gradually gaining momentum and it may be to late to stop it.

If you (general you) think elementary school kids aren't already exposed to sexuality, you're living in dreamland.

Not the point.  The school has no business teaching sexuality to the kids without the express permission of the parents.

I 120% agree with this at the Elementary School level.

Unfortunately though, with some parents unwilling to discuss the issue with their kids at any age, it needs to be taught at no later than the Middle School level, parental permission or not, because by High School some of those uninformed kids are getting pregnant, getting someone pregnant, or getting and giving STD's.

Why does ANY sexuality need to be taught at ANY point in school?

All that needs to be taught is anatomy, cause and affect, and possible outcomes.

This is the penis, when aroused, it gets hard. This is what happens inside the body....

This is an egg, this is a sperm, during sex, if the egg is penetrated with the sperm, pregnancy occurs, this is how the body handles that....

No matter who is having sex, the possibility of X, Y, and Z can occur, here is why and how to protect yourself....

At no point is sexuality even an issue.

This "queen theory" is just another step toward brainwashing to benefit the deviance of the human mind.

Yeah, you know. Where perversion is held up as good (transgenders are good and deserve special treatment) while morality is to be shunned (men honoring their wives is bad and they should be fired as public servants)...

Actually, her doctor talks to her about this topic, granted that is only once a year.  I have talked to her on multiple occasions.  For those kids whose parents do not talk to them, well I feel sorry for them.  But a small percent of the school population shouldn't dictate what is in the school curriculum. When my son was in elementary school, the state had mandated that sex ed be taught.  The town I lived in rallied against having it part of the school day classes.  So the town organized evening courses that required the parents to attend as well.  It was 3 evenings.  First evening the girls learned about girl stuff, boys about boy stuff, the second class the girls learned about boy stuff, and boys about girl stuff, final class was everyone together and a discussion took place.  It was great.  I wish all schools would do this.

children are innocent at this stage--we need to lose the labels--we need to call it what it is--not queer, not gay but homosexual--HOMOsexual--deviant, by any sensible definition--do we REALLY need to confront/confuse innocent CHILDREN with homosexuality?--believe the only rational answer is " no "

If by "stage" you mean Elementary School. I would tend to agree with you.

If you mean later than that, I think that that horse has already left the barn. By the time kids get to Middle school they already know about gay and lesbian people existing. It's likely that they have friends with adult relatives that are - or they, themselves, have adult relatives that are gay or lesbian. They may not know the mechanics of how gay and lesbian sex works, but they likely know sex in general terms (even if it's limited to PG-13 "activity under a blanket" in movies or on TV), and they likely know their own gender's body pretty well. So they can add 2 + 2 and get 5 and then start wondering because they KNOW that "5" is the wrong answer.

That wondering will lead to looking for answers. It's better that they have real answers, rather than answers that are made up by people afraid of teaching them sex.

There is a vast difference between mechanics and feeling.

Health education is the mechanics of how the body works and the consequences of actions.

Sexuality is about feelings.

And the schools should not be teaching feelings.

Do you understand the difference?

I understand what you are saying. However sexuality and the mechanics of it go hand-in-hand (or other parts into other parts, if you prefer).

To divorce the two would be like teaching global geography and only teaching Northern Hemisphere, without teaching the Southern Hemisphere; because you can't have one without the other on a globe.

There is no need to talk about Luke and Lance, or Daisy and Darren, or Helen and Hannah and those relationships in order to teach how the body functions and the possible consequences on of actions.

Does it matter if Luke and Larry have a relationship or does it matter that they understand they need to use a condom to prevent the spread of disease?

One can be taught without the other.

I don't know what "be removed" means in your world but in my world it means you advocate firing him. So saying you never suggested it is just proven wrong.

Elementary schools here go through 5th grade...plenty old enough to have reached puberty.

In humans, puberty occurs at the onset of adolescence, between the ages of about 11 and 14 in girls and 13 and 16 in boys. (Dictionary.com)

Still not up to the school to be talking about it.  And I'm tired of EVERY child having to be exposed to sexuality issue over something that effects an extremely minute part of society.

Then you can talk about them all you want with YOUR kids.  Leave mine alone.  You don't get to make decisions for them.
