Good Geeks, my husband either has the softest heart in the world. Or...he's just nuts!
A few weeks ago, Wayne noticed a pair of doves, trying to build a nest on the window sill, in the window above our front door.
They worked like crazy, and she laid a couple of eggs.
Sadly, a couple of days later, we found the eggs on our front porch. They had rolled out of the nest. (The sill is slanted away from the window. No wonder the eggs rolled.)
Well, this pair of doves was determined. They tried again.
And, the same thing happened.
Wayne decided that he needed to help them.
He took apart a coat hanger. Bent it into zigzags. Got up on a ladder and Gorilla glued it to the brick window sill, to make a dam for any future nests.
Sure enough, the doves came back and built another nest, behind the wire dam.
And, now we have two baby doves, being raised by their parents, on our front porch!
Success at last!
(I still can't believe he went to all that trouble. But it sure is fun to watch the babies grow up.)
Okay, the board was a little slow today.
I thought you guys might enjoy a cute story, with a happy ending.
Ok, so why have you not been documenting this for us in pictures?
I bet the doves are cute.
Our Robins came back this year, but I filled up the basket so Caitlyn could use her bike this year.
They built their nest on the washroom window sil.
Which was great cause we could watch without momMA robin getting all worked up.

We have a few families of wrens that like to build their nests in our hanging flower baskets. This year, one family was impatient and built their nest in our gutter. So, I hung the baskets early. Here is one family.

Last year, they also laid 5 eggs. Only three hatched. No clue as to how many are in the gutter nest. And some bird is eyeing the hanging planter out front.
I have to be very careful when I get into the car
under the carport - a pair of sparrows have built
a nest in one of the trusses - it ain't liquid sunshine
that's dropping!
Sad. I found two broken eggs on the driveway at the bottom of the stairs. Could have been from either nest. I could see remains in one. I left them alone and within two hours, they were gone.

That is sad, jlbear.
We often find nests that have been attacked, by other birds.
