It's a start, and the Senate can clean it up...remove PP funding, etc.

Did you hear about the Dems singing na-na-na to the tune of Hey Jude?

Jesse got a ping on his FB that ACA was repealed today, but I thought it was not.

Which is it?

I understand it was an amendment, replacing various provisions. Not enough, however, and the Senate is expected to tweak it further.

I think it will pass. To many states have failing healthcare programs and Dem's are feeling the pressure from the insurance industry.

There is a lot of political pressure to repeal/change Obamacare.

And Kimmel's spewing about his newborn son's case is hog wash. He is in a private charity hospital! And Kimmel can well afford private care. His case has nothing to do with Obamacare. Jeesh.

The House version passed, but from what I can find online the Senate may rip it to shreds. What passed will likely NOT end up on Trump's desk to be signed.

More likely is that the Senate will make changes to it that they will approve of, and then pass it back to the House. They will either approve of the changes (in which case it will go straight to Trump's desk, for signature) or make counter changes and then send it back to the Senate.

Personally I hope it doesn't make it to Trump's desk, and if it does, I hope he vetoes it. It's neither better, nor does it cover everyone. That was one of the things that he promised "better and covers everyone". I'd like him to keep his promises and prove all the naysayers about him, wrong.

Ha! And it deletes the part about the Congress being exempt from any of the Bill.

They should simply have repealed. Period.

This version will not make it to T's desk, that I am fairly certain. But it's a start. Now the Senate can make changes and hopefully the House will agree and get it passed.

Well not what we want but Hillary would have expanded it.

Did this change have anything to do with not having any, flan? Did you have it before yesterday?

 Oh, no, sorry!

DH carried me & he is now retired. He's got Medicare (the one for old people!)

We have a number of sites to check for me. Honestly, if I can get my 2 scrips through Good RX, I'll be okay for a while.

But, wasn't the promise to improve it? And make it cheaper? And cover more people? I'm hearing up here that some basic needs will not be covered; mental health, preexisting conditions (like cancer, which people can't privately care for) and some states will have the choice to decide whether things like ambulances are even basic needs.

I can't understand how this is an improvement or how it is close to the 'everyone will be covered, everyone will get what they want and everyone will be able to afford it'. Is this where senate comes in?

And flan makes a good point; wasn't one of the promises that people who didn't have healthcare because they couldn't afford the premiums under ObamaCare would get insurance/be able to afford insurance under the new plan?

There will not be mandated services that must be covered.  You can choose a policy and must be aware what is covered.  There may policies that do not cover mental health and those that do, you need to be aware.

Younger people may just want catastrophic plan that only covers emergency issues.

States can opt out of mandating pre existing coverage and create high risk pools of people.

That is accomplished in a second bill.  Currently Congress is not exempt from ACA.  The new AHCA exempts Congress if states choose to opt out of mandating coverage of preexisting conditions.  A second bill which was passed stops this exemption.  Because of reconciliation in the Senate the AHCA bill needs 51 votes, the second bill will need 60 votes to pass.

I understand that the pre-existing condition clause was not touched, contrary to what is being reported. And I agree, there aren't enough changes to it. I suspect the Senate will make additional improvements.

If you do look into getting it, flan, I would be curious to hear if it's affordable, available, and if coverage is good. On the other board, I have heard a few people say the ACA enabled them to get it where they couldn't before, but more people say premiums have soared through the roof as a result. I know mine have more than doubled, and coverage, particularly on prescriptions, has become worse.

My prescription costs have sky rocketed.

First jump was 130%, second jump another 100%, third jump was nearly a 300% increase.

Thankfully I use a local pharmacy and they only do bare bones so I'm still able to get my meds.

My premiums went up, too.

Tripled.

So this is what I have heard. This is step one. It gets rid of most of the taxes and coverage mandates for procedures or prescription that you don't need, such as a nun having to pay for BC coverage, etc.

I listened to an interview with that the Doctor that wrote this book:
The Art of American Health Care [Print Replica] Kindle Edition
by Peter Warinner

He said it is a great start and that the whole ACA can't be repealed all at once. Rather, each piece needs to be dealt with one by one. Also catastrophic policies are allowed. And HSA's stay which is great.

I heard that as well, IKWTDS. But the media is going to spin it like no else's business.

Of course. And they are refusing to run some political ads...which is illegal, but they are too stupid to care...

Yes. That was the promise.

Sadly this bill fails on all three points. Hopefully it will die in the Senate, and hopefully those Republicans can get it right in their counter proposal.
