How about a chapel, etc.??

OK, maybe a good idea, but what about a chapel for Christians, a small synagogue for Jewish; etc. etc.??

Another case where people are jumping all over themselves to help Muslims (through fear of what might happen if they don"t?)

JR East to set up prayer room at Tokyo Station

East Japan Railway Co. will install a prayer room at Tokyo Station in response to an increase in Muslim visitors to Japan, mainly from Southeast Asian nations.

The prayer room, with a floor space of about 8 sq. meters, will be launched on June 5 and can be used by about two people at a time, the company said Tuesday.

It will be the first prayer room at a train station in Japan. Currently, some airports and station buildings have such facilities.

Located at the JR East Travel Service Center outside the ticket gates at Tokyo Station’s Marunouchi North Exit, the prayer room also has a facility for users to wash their hands and feet.

Adherents of religions other than Islam can also use the room, which will be available from 8:30 a.m. every day. It will be closed at 7 p.m. on weekdays and at 5 p.m. on Saturdays and holidays, including Sundays.

Tokyo Station is one of the biggest train stations in the capital, accommodating the Tohoku, Joetsu and other shinkansen lines as well as commuter routes including the Yamanote and Chuo lines.

JR East also said that space for luggage to be secured inside the passenger cabins of the Tohoku, Hokkaido and Akita shinkansen trains will be phased in from July 1.

Luggage space inside the passenger cabins have already been made available on Hokuriku Shinkansen trains.

I say, bad idea.cry

Heck no!

If you are traveling on public transportation...pray in silent.

Don't ask for special prayer rooms.

(Don't like it? Drive to your destination,  yourself.)

JMHO.

Can non-Muslims use the same area to pray? That would be fine. Often hospitals have non-denominational chapels.

Here, we have a Religion Alley, where there is a mosque, a number of churches (with services in various languages at various times), a gurdhwara and a Buddhist temple. All in a row. They all get along fine. And the gurdhwara provides free vegan dinner pretty much every night.

It says non-Muslims may use the room also.

Although I see this as an issue. Since it is billed as a Muslim prayer room, the first time a non-Muslim uses it, I can hear Muslims saying the room is unclean now or that they're using it when Muslims need to use it, etc.

Airports in my area have non-denominational chapels. Let them use those. Anything else is a bad idea, and a sign that ISIS is taking over.

If it's for use by all religions, it shouldn't be called a MUSLIM prayer room.

I don't see in the article where it is called a Muslim prayer room. Just that it was prompted by an increase in Muslim visitors.

I think chapels and prayer rooms are great. There need to be more of them. When I worked at a hospital, I loved going to one of the chapels and just sitting in the quiet. I miss that.

It's a prayer room, with floor space to accommodate prayer rugs. I don't know if many other religions where you put rugs on the floor, kneel on them, and pray. Or any other religions which refer to their place of worship as "prayer rooms." And it's in response to an increase in Muslim visitors. It's a "prayer room" which is available for use by persons of other religions besides Muslims. Ergo, it's a Muslim prayer room.

I've heard "prayer rooms" mentioned in Christian denominations.

How nice of the Muslim community to facilitate a place of worship for all denominations? (Also, on the floor of a train? I'd bring something to sit on ...)

I'm afraid if I got down on the rug to pray I wouldn't be able to get back up again. Heck, I don't even kneel during Mass, but I do sit at the edge of my seat to allow those behind me room to kneel.

There are a few American high schools that have made muslim prayer rooms.

Why?

I can guarantee there is no way a Christian Chapel would be allowed.

Well, yeah. It's run by a church.

A train station is not.

Shouldn't it be called "a moment of silence room"?

That way, no one can claim any ownership.

Maybe I have missed something somewhere, but I don't think muslim women are allowed to use prayer (muslim) rooms, are they?

So, there you go lady's, you don't have to kneel.  biggrin

It should be interesting to see if muslims even use these rooms, given their belief in disparity.

 Yes.

Women are not allowed in the same prayer room, they also have to enter through a different door, and use different wash basins.

Women are property and not worthy and are only allowed in when their father's, husband's, or son's give them permission.

Interesting:

I sometimes hear Muslim women described as powerless and oppressed, but that isn’t the full picture. Even in very conservative societies, if women face restrictions in public areas, men also face restrictions on their entry, and movement in women’s domestic space, especially beyond their own immediate families. Women’s status can often change significantly over a lifetime. A young bride living in the home of her husband’s parents may not have much power. However, when she has a son, and when her son grows up and gets married, that changes. A friend who had worked in the Middle East told me that whenever anything needed doing, or paperwork signed, they would ask the women, and it would happen. Older women, particularly mothers, can be significant power brokers in an extended family.

The Muslim boys next door to my parents are not permitted to enter my parents' home unless my father answers the door. If my mom answers, they must stay outside. I call it the Pence rule. LOL

You're welcome but that site seems to be full of propaganda. It figures you'd find it authentic.

You are always so quick to say I "hate" you or my heart is too full of hate to have an open mind. You are projecting as you know nothing about me. I know a lot about you because you can't have a thought without typing it out. Whether you SHOULD tell people or not.

She only becomes valid after she becomes married, that could be as young as 5, has a son, the son grows up, and she survives the whole thing.

But I guess if she makes it that long.....
