I had to sit on my hands the other night When a friends wife posted asking if anyone could take their cats because they can't have them Where they're moving to. I wouldn't buy a condo or townhouse that didn't allow my pets. I have an issue with that. Pets are not disposable. Ugh
However, there are times when yu have to do what is best for the people and find a new home for the pets.

I can't even go into the pets section on Craigslist because it's like post after post of that same story. We're moving and our animals can't come. makes me so mad

Regarding pets: I can't speak for Vette, though I suspect she and I see it the same way. The thing that really angers me is people who go out and get a kitten or a puppy without a thought for the future - a spur of the moment decision. THAT's what bothers me. Animals are not disposable, and too many people treat them like they are.
We are still hanging on to our house, because, it's paid for. And, until a few of our pets, go over "The Rainbow Bridge"... it wouldn't be fair to them, to downsize.
If someone has a terminal illness...and reaches out to re-home their pets before they pass away. Well, that's a nice thing to do.
To give them away, because you want to move to a pet-free condo, or apartment?
Well, that's sad.
On the bright side...at least she is trying to find the cats a good home.

Oh my gosh! So many dogs are in the shelter because the owner gave them up after 6 months because a puppy was too much work!
I had to really give my sister the what for when she was pregnant and telling me how they were thinking of getting a puppy. Double work!! Now her baby is here and she's so glad she didn't get a dog.

Yes in the case of illness or a newly developed allergy , stuff like that sometimes you have to rehome a pet. If the pet bites or becomes aggressive by all means. But just because the place you want doesn't allow pets?! That's awful. Look a little more and find a place where you can have your believe pets.
It's a pet peeve. Pun intended!

I hope someone will take her pets.
Fingers crossed.
I almost spoke to DH about taking the cats but our old lady cat is just now coming out from hiding from when I moved in 8 months ago! She's 15 and I want her to live out her life stress free. But I was tempted!

That's true, but I'd be willing to bet in the majority of these situations it still boils down to poor planning on the people's part.
ETA: example: "We are gone from 6am-6pm every day and it's just not fair to Fluffy to have to be kenneled alone for that long"
-Yea, you're right, but you knew your schedule when you got Fluffy...
"We need to rehome our two one year old Great Danes, we've had them since they were babies and they are both really sweet, we just can't afford their dog food anymore"
-So basically, now that they are grown they eat a lot more and you can't keep up. Yep that's a problem, but the tiniest bit of research (or common sense) would have told you that.

I'll agree that most people don't consider long term issues that arise when they get a pet, until after they get it. And that is wrong.
When the boys were babies and I was pushing the double stroller down the street and up the hill, my neighbor across the street was wrangling her new puppy. She commented that this was her first puppy, she had never in her life had a dog before. I responded, "Of course, they're work! More work than babies!" She still has the dog, and now three children.
When I was single and living in an apartment my friend suggested I get a dog. WTF? I was traveling, working 5 days a week (no telework back then) and had an active social life. NFW was I getting a dog. How unfair that would have been to the animal.

Renters should not get pets should because of this situation. Renting is a temp situation. What i love about our no-kill shelters here in my area is they check this out, if you are a renter the chances of getting a shelter pet are almost nil. They also insist that every family member, including other pets, come meet the pet you are wanting to adopt to make sure they get along.

Mary, God bless you for understanding and for treating your senior fur baby so well.
