After reading through this thread, I'm wondering what the "protest" was actually in protest of. The protesters mention generalities a lot, but never anything specific so we can have an "ah-ha!" moment and think "Yes, I understand your issue with that". It's just conversations like this:
Protester: "LGBT issues."
Conservative: "Okay. What issues, specifically?"
Protester: "The LGBT ones"
Conservative: "Okay, again, SPECIFICALLY what issues?"
Protester: "The LGBT ones, you idiot!!!"
Conservative: "What 'LGBT ones', list them."
Protester: "The ones against the LGBT people."
Conservative: "I give up."
And I agree. It wasn't a reasonable protest, it was rudeness multiplied by however many participated. If you don't like the person, don't be present for his speech, or have a protest outside, or wear an "I'm only here under protest" shirt. But sit down, shut up, and stay quiet and respectful while he's talking if you are present in that hall or auditorium.
Why wasn't a real protest held against the school long before Pence showed to speak? It should've been held when the school announced months in advance who the speaker would be. THAT would be the time to protest and deal with their displeasure of the situation.
Yes. They hijacked an event that was meant for everyone, their graduation after years of hard work and effort and which is supposed to be a time of celebration with family and friends and made it ALL ABOUT THEM.
Lol. In a CNN interview a few of those that walked out said they did so because they were frightened by his presence. Lollllll what a bunch of drama queens

Well, it gets tiring. Students hijack the HS graduation to make some "statement" or whatever. Can we not have our life events without this constant bullschit in our faces?

Are we sure these kids are ready to graduate and enter the real world?
And I use the word kids because that is very childish thinking.
I wish someone would find this same idiots in 10-20 years, ask them their opinion on these policies then, you know, after they've gotten some real life experience.
Very few will still feel the same.

When I was that age it never would have occurred to me to walk out in protest. There seems to be no scruples or decorum anymore amount some of the young adults.
I bet they expect good jobs to be handed to them too. Why do the snowflakes have to work for anything??
And I didn't vote for Trump. Oy
I don't know about everyone else, but I'd totally get rid of all the extra speeches if possible.
How many need to be given?
These things are 2-3 hours long now a days.
Geesh, when I graduated there was 600 of us, from commencement to benediction, 1 and a half hours.
Two speakers, one welcoming, pledge, and prayer, one from the superintendent congratuling us.
Now, it's the class president, the validictorian, salutitorian, superintendent, principal, special guest, and assistant superintendent.
Aaron's class has 336 students.
It's going to be a long 3 hours.

I went to a Homeshool Graduation a couple of weeks ago. It was the most beautiful thing...
There were 9 of them.
They walked in to Pomp and Circumstance and were seated on the stage. They gave a blessing and then had a speaker.
Then, after they called the name of each graduate, a slideshow was shown on the screen of moments from their lives. While that was showing, they played audio of the graduate, talking about their lives, their dreams, what they were thankful for...just whatever they wanted to say in 2 minutes.
Then, each graduate's parent came on stage and spoke about their child.
In the vestibule, each graduate had a table. They placed mementoes of their lives...a violin, favorite books, recital costumes, sports uniforms, just things that were special to them.
By far, one of THE most beautiful ceremonies I've ever had the privilege to attend...

That sounds so nice, Oh4!
What a nice, personal celebration of their graduation!

O4, that graduation had meaning. Good for those parents for doing a fine job home schooling their kids and sending them off into the world with warm memories.

Heck, my kids didn't even have ONE Valedictorian. They had 12 or so. Anyone with a 4.0 GPA was a valedictorian. Ridiculous. There should be ONE.

Wait.
What?
How can you have 12 "student(s) with the highest grade point average"? Isn't "highest" somewhat exclusive to only the one, singular, person with the best GPA?
