I have to work with a millennial. She is the most condescending person, other than welts, apple, & ana, that I have ever encountered. I put my office skype on "busy" because she IMs me nasty messages. And the voicemails are atrocious. Just got one a few minutes ago. Wants to know why something is or isn't in the computer system. I am not an IT person, so how the frick would I know. Sheesh.

Hahaha I hear ya about welts, apple and ana! They are quite the condescending trio. I avoid them like the plague.

I also work with a bunch of millennials. Those who are still in late teens and 20s are far more respectful than those older but not to the boomer point.

Hey, now. I'm a millennial, according to some definitions. I always threw participation ribbons in the trash because I thought they were stupid. My parents told me I could do and have anything I wanted- if I worked for it. I seem to have turned out okay.

People of any age can be jerks, lazy, entitled, etc.

I really think it's unfair and inaccurate to label entire generations like this.

I could say some unkind things about baby boomers, but I won't because I know that while many are selfish jerks there are many who are quite awesome.

I actually think the generational labels are a little off. Millennials are anyone born 1977-1995, and after that, it is Generation Z. I think most of the entitlement problems are with later millennials and early Zs. Early millennials didn't have it that easy.

I agree LL. I know lots of 30ish people including DS. None of those in my circles are lazy or feel entitled.

I do a lot of social work and client advocacy by phone. Usually government social workers. Sometimes I run across a particularly whiny one who doesn't want to do their job and cries when I push for accountability. So far, I've been right on the Millenium guess every single time.

The earliest designation of millennials I have found is starting in 1982. I am quite adamant I am not a millennial.

I read an interesting article about "new millennials" vs "old millennials". It was a good read. I can't post the link on my phone, but if you google that, it comes up.

I think some millennials get a bad rap. I have a couple co-workers that are much older and act worse than some millennials. One is on her phone constantly - she was Face Timing with her kid at her desk the other day. She's constantly late to work and leaving early. It's infuriating. The other one just got let go (in part) because in the 9 weeks she worked here, I don't think she worked a full week. She took at least 4 vacation days already and called in sick at least 5 times (that I know of) and she also was constantly late and left early.

Somewhere, society as a whole lost its respect for hard work and commitment

I absolutely agree with this. But I would also like to add that companies and industry have also lost the art of treating employees like they matter and are important to the success of said company.

I guess I am a millennial, but I'm with cheerios, I always thought it was people in their twenties.

I'd say I work hard at sixty hours average a week. I respect my leadership and do what I'm told.

In fairness, not all millennials, obviously, are as described. As indicated in the video, there are factors that play into the creation of the stereotypical millennial. Parenting and environment have a huge impact.
