Well, not exactly.  You can get old AND Die or just die.  Death is a certainty.  Well, unless you believe in the Bible and some Christians who are alive at the time of the Rapture will actually not meet a physical death.  biggrin

Sorry, I was thinking about my mother.

Every year, it was the same thing.

Me: "What do you want for your birthday?"

Her: "I'm not having a birthday."

 Why do you keep asking?

Because...if I didn't, Mom would get mad.

(And she died in 2002)

You have spoken often of how awful your mother was, so after you became an adult, who cares if she got mad?  You continued to allow her all the control.  And I think you still do even 15 years after her death.

I just met with a client. She is in commercial construction, she said she had to hire a 56 year old welder b/c the young people that work for her are not reliable. They won't work if it's too hot, too cold, or if they have a headache, and they will quit working for the day when they feel like it without finishing the job. She also has to mother them - can't get them to turn in their time cards or get them right without reminders and hand-holding. She said one is going to be very unhappy today. It's payday and he won't be getting paid because he still hasn't turned in his signed time card.

Yeah LL I can see that dynamic here at times. The older employees work harder and have a better work ethnic. In general

And perhaps if he has to wait for his check, he'll remember next time...?

I remember, vividly, the day I got my driver's license.

I showed my granny.

See smiled, put her around me, and said "honey, it took you longer to get to 16 than it ever will to get to 60".

That woman knew what she was talking about.

Actually I hope the employer has his check ready. Can't withhold pay for that. Employer knew he did work. Should cut him a check for one hour.

He works offsite.  He has to account for his hours and SIGN the timecard stating it is correct.

DH's job has the problem of people not getting their hours in and it's always the same people. Personally, I'd fire each and every one of them. DH's boss is a great guy and I'm tired of him getting yelled at because some of the people in his department can't be bothered to do their jobs. DH is one of the few who gets his hours in each week.

I sadly remember the answer I was given once when I was interviewing a Millennial:

Me: "How would you best describe your work ethics?"
Him: "My what?"

I was utterly dumbfounded at that point. I don't remember any of the interview before or after that. I do remember that he didn't get the job. I was pre-screening people the Manager was the one doing the actual hiring after a second interview.

when was still interviewing salespeople myself liked to do so on saturday mornings--you wouldn't believe the number of applicants that said " we have to work on saturdays? wow, just don't know if i could do that! " and we'd be sitting in the dealership, doing business, on a SATURDAY morning and these folks just couldn't be bothered/committed enough to work weekends--lord, it made me wonder
