It's 69 in this living room.

I'm dressed in shorts and a tank top.

Mom is freezing in her 72 degree den, in shorts and a tshirt, telling me it's too cold in the house.

Put a jacket on in your end of the house.

I can't take anything else off!

At what point do you expect others to be too warm?

Or too cool?

What's your comfort zone?

I keep my car at 73. I keep my house at 77 in summer, 74 in winter. Anything below that I'm freezing. But each HVAC system is different.

Anything below 73 degrees and I'm shivering.

Lily, you live in your mom's house, she is older and needs to be warmer than you or your kids.

When my MIL was ill and wanted the house at 80 degrees, everyone BUT her daughter respected MIL's need for warmth.

DH still resents the fact that his sister put HER needs before the needs of her mother.

I don't mean to be snarky or anything, but why do your needs come before your mother's in her house?

IMHO, 69 is freakin' cold!

I keep the heat at 73 in the winter. I would like it higher, but I can't bring myself to raise it.

In the summer I set it at 76. That seems fine, unless I have some heavy cleaning to do. Then, I ding it down for a couple of hours.

Just depends. If i am working and active then i need it cooler than if i am binge watching Netflix. Personally, i would rather be too hot and be sweaty than be too cold. I really hate being cold. There is no specific temp, just depends on the circumstances, what i am doing , what i am wearing, etc. But, i dress in layers. And, i take a sweater with me everywhere i go, even if it is 100 degrees out because if you go into a restaurant or something, they have to air condition you to death. It's annoying.

Ok. So how much more naked do I need to get?

Like I said, I'm in shorts and tank top.

She is in the other end, in shorts and t shirt.

Couldn't she put on pants and a sweater?

The two ends have completely different systems.

Why does my end have to be hot when she isn't even in here?

On top of all of this, I'm coughing my head off so much that I'm almost throwing up.

I've always been like this. As a child, I'd get to coughing when I got too warm, I'd throw up then, too.

My bronchitis is acting up, the heat and coughing does not help.

Get a fan and put it in front of your chair or wherever you are.

Oh, and this is my house, too.

I made payments right along with them.

Two separate ends, two separate systems.

I just think that I compromise a lot, to the point of making myself sick, and then to sit in another end and fuss because you don't want to put on a sweater, is silly.

I'm cooking and cleaning, you're sitting watching TV and playing solitaire.

It's 72 in your end, you're cold. Put on a sweater.

Good question.

I asked her, she said she doesn't want it to get too warm.

Yeah. That's what she said.

Didn't your mom recently have heart problems?

64 in the winter, wear warmer clothing, 72 on the AC in the summer. Works for me.

I dont keep the house as warm as i would really like in the winter. Not because of the expense, but because if i get it much above 70 or 72, the air gets too dry and uncomfortable. So, i would rather be colder and not deal with that. I am fine with 66 or 68 in the winter.

 Yes.

So do I.

I'm not asking her to do anything but put on a sweater.

BTW, she has been released and has been going out every day, shopping and doing whatever else she does.

I want to make sure it is understood what I mean by her end.

This house is divided, her end is completely closedan to this end.

There is one door connecting the two, it stays closed.

It may as well be a duplex.

I guess I don't understand the problem then. If the house is basically two separate homes, there shouldn't be a problem.

Exactly,  she is fussing about being cold in her end and wants my end warmer too.

There have been times when I could not get warm, no matter how much I put on. Sweatpants, sweaters, blanket after blanket. And I wasn't sick - just cold. I had very, very low blood pressure when I was younger and often couldn't stay warm. Your mom's issue could very well be circulatory, especially with the recent heart issues.

And you live in Georgia. You should be used to heat. If you are sweating at 69 degrees, maybe you should see a doctor.

We keep our bedroom coolish - 68-70, and keep
warm with down-filled comforters. The rest of
the house is warmer.

Ok. But if you are cold, do you sit in shorts and a shirt and say turn the heat on or do you first try changing into pants or pulling a sweater on?

And do you complain because the neighbors house is cooler than yours?

Cause really, that's kinda what she is doing.

And I have always been like this, always.

I like warm weather, I don't like smothering in a hot room.

I get a blanket if it is lower than 72. Otherwise, I feel every single draft or shift in air.
