The world's meanest neighbor! The moment a man pulls the plug on bounce house at girl's second birthday party - sending two children to hospital as inflatable collapses

  • Deborah Romero was celebrating her daughter's birthday on Sunday when the bounce house collapsed
  • About a dozen kids were trapped under the falling plastic and had to be rescued
  • Two children were taken to the hospital to be checked for injuries
  • Surveillance video caught an unknown neighbor secretly pulling the plug
  • The Florida mom said this isn't the first time she's had trouble in the neighborhood

A joyous celebration quickly turned into a nightmare after a stranger pulled the plug and deflated a bounce house during a birthday party with children still inside it.

The surveillance video captured a man committing the act before disappearing across the street to his own house.

The heavy collapsing plastic sent two children to the hospital as police continue to search for the grumpy neighbor.

Deborah Romero said kids were bouncing in the inflatable house during her daughter's birthday party on Sunday when it suddenly started to sink.

'We were very nervous about the kids because it was extremely hot, and they were trapped inside the bounce house,' she told WPEC.

'We couldn't really reach for all the kids, and we unfortunately had to pull one of the kids by his leg.'

Parents worked to rescue approximately a dozen kids between ages two and three.

Two children had to be taken to the hospital, one for distress and the other to check for possible injuries.

Surveillance footage, watched later, captured an unknown man in his 60s looking at the party over a fence for a few seconds.

He then heads to the backyard and unplugs the bounce house, before walking back across the street.

YouTube video was created calling the man a 'bad neighbor' and a 'piece of trash'.

A police spokesperson told WPEC that the area was was canvased, but that the man in the video was never identified.

Romero said that this is not the first time her family had suffered from an incident like this.

She said during the holidays, the family's cord to their Christmas lights outside was cut.

That led them to install the security cameras which caught the neighbor.

Port St Lucie Police say charges for an incident like this vary depending on the situation but, in this case, a trespassing charge would apply.

2 things, plug it back up. It'll inflate again. And watch it constantly.

There was one of these at my nephews birthday party when he was 5, I think.

Someone tripped over the cord, unplugging it, and it started to deflate.

Plugged it back in and up it went.

A TRESPASSING charge? There were kids in that bouncy. He should be charged with assault and reckless endangerment of children.

I wonder why the man in the video was not identified despite a canvas of the neighborhood. Perhaps he is a rather well-known bully and no one wants to be the one to name him for fear of being on the receiving end of some of his stunts. Just a thought. IF it is the same person who cut the cord for the Christmas lights this is a real Scrooge type of guy.

Why would anyone do this and injure chldren? OK, probably a lot of yelling and screaming but we are talking about a few hours for a party. Go shopping or see a movie or something if you cannot take it.

That's a whole lot of crazy. I am wondering why he hasn't been identified either. Perhaps he didn't answer the door when the police came knocking?

The biggest low life jerk award goes to that neighbor. I can't understand why someone would want to hurt innocent little children enjoying a birthday party.

What a curmudgeon.

When the boys were about 3, they went to a birthday party. It was held at a magic place. They had a bouncy. It had a hole that was patched with duct tape. Folks, there is one thing duct tape just doesn't work on...bouncies. The darned thing kept deflating any time more than one child went on it. The party was horrible. Three year olds just don't know how to wait their turn. To make matters worse, the birthday child's parents were going through a nasty divorce at the time. Ugh.

While I think this guy is horrible I also wonder didnt they just plug it back in? I've seen these things deflate accidentally and it never turned into a big ordeal.
Mean old man though!

I don't think they knew why it was deflating, it appears they saw what happened once it was all over and viewed the video.

If it was plugged into his yard he'd have every right to unplug it but I'm pretty sure it wasn't. There's always that one cranky old guy in the neighborhood. We had one growing up.
