A 10-year-old boy was thrown from a waterslide on opening day of a $43million water park in California.

'The Wave' water park opened in Dublin, California, Saturday but within 90 minutes, the Emerald Plunge was closed.

The 10-year-old boy was flung off the track of the three-story slide onto concrete, just after noon, according to East Bay Times

The boy then skidded several feet on the concrete, giving him scratches on his back.

He was not seriously injured and quickly stood up, but one witness said he was visibly shaken.

'I was standing there, he seemed to be shook, but seemed to be okay. Came right up and immediately went into the First Aid room and was assessed by staff,' Dublin Assistant City Manager Linda Smith told ABC 7

The boy's parents were also present, according to Smith.

Police and fire officials were not called to the scene because his parents declined. They took him to the hospital themselves, and has since been released, according to ABC 7.

The Emerald Plunge and the 'Dublin Screamer' slide beside it were closed for the rest of the day.

After the incident, the park, 'The Wave' closed the Emerald Plunge, pictured. Park officials have said they are 'reevaluating that slide'. The blue slide beside it was also closed for the day

A spokeswoman said the city-owned park is 'reevaluating that slide', according to Mercury News.

The manufacturing company went to the part to assess the slide, which Smith told the Mercury News had been tested 'scores of times'.

The park received a permit to run the slide, which drops at an 80-degree angle, on Friday.

Park officials said they followed the manufacturer's guidelines including height requirements, according to KTVU

Riders are supposed to cross their arms and legs when going down the slide, but the boy's legs were apart, KRON reported.

The park's other four slides remained open for the rest of the day. The 31,000-square-foot park also has three pools, a water playground and an outdoor performing arts center.

The incident in Dublin comes almost one year after a 10-year-old boy was decapitated when he was thrown out of a waterslide's raft and into the safety netting.

Caleb Thomas Schwab was killed on August 7, 2016 on the 168-foot-tall Verruckt ride in the Kansas water park, Schlitterbahn.

The waterslide had reportedly never been inspected by the state since it opened two years previously.

There are no federal inspection laws for waterparks in the U.S., and inspections are handled on a state-by-state basis. State inspectors reportedly last checked the waterpark in 2012, well before the Verruckt opened in 2014.

My understanding is the boy did not listen to or follow the instructions. You are supposed to keep your legs straight and together. Although, if one can get so much speed going on the slide that you fly off, I don't think it is safe at all.

Really? He hit the water and aquaplaned off the side. Kids are kids. Anyone with a brain can see there need to be side protectors. Especially at the bottom point where the water is swirling. Wow. Are you really going to blame the child?

If you are engineering something for safety, especially for kids, part of that is considering every stupid things that humans go do and your job is to protect them from themselves. What if if they stick up an arm, or a leg, etc or sit up in water slide, etc. That is part of your job to consider those possibilities and design it in a way for maximum safety. Having side protectors at the lowest point where your speed is maximum and you then encounter the resistance of the water would logically dictate that you need additional protection there. That child is lucky that he didn't die. He could have just as easily slammed his skull off the concrete and died or had severe brain damage.

How did I blame the child? He didn't follow instructions but the slide itself is not safe as I stated. You trying to start an argument with me????  Put 'em up.wink

Eh. He wasn't seriously hurt.

The park will now reconsider the age and weight.appropriateness of the ride, add some height to the walls, and probably a net.

Water parks are tons of fun.

Yeah. He did.

That was a good thing.

If that concrete had not been there, he would have fell to the ground and probably broken a bone.

Instead, he has scratches.

Could get scratches from falling while riding a bike, or skateboarding, or just walking.

So yeah, eh, he wasn't seriously hurt.

I prefer mud.  However, does your jello have vodka in it?  Then I could be swayed.

I've been to waterparks.

Yes, there is always the possibility of something going wrong.

But I have seen, and benefited, the safety precautions they have.

Most of the time, 99% of the time, it is users error that gets them hurt.

Now that isn't putting blame on anyone.

It's reality.

And when someone gets hurt, the problem is addressed, and safety precautions are re-accessed.

That's why you see requirements include weight and height a lot of time.

Water parks are fun.

Kids get hurt.

It's part of life.

As long as it isn't slaw.

That stuff turns bad.

I dislike misleading headlines. The waterslide may
be three stories high, but it appears he only fell a
couple of feet onto the cement, towards the end
of the ride.

Yeah, the title was very misleading.

Kids aren't always going to follow directions. Well, they probably aren't going to follow directions. Glad he wasn't hurt, but the designs of these places now need to be safer. Focus on safe fun rather than so much thrill. Rollercoasters are the the same. To the point of being dangerous.

He could have gotten a concussion on the cement. The next kid might. Perhaps they should re-evaluate the age limit or raise the sides so they aren't as apt to bounce out.
