Paul worked from 3 to 11 yesterday.

I was so tired, I started to nod off, around 10. So, I set an alarm, on my phone.

I slept right through it. More than once.

Paul walked home. Thank goodness, it was less than a mile.

But, I felt bad.cry

Don't feel too bad, Lily.

My bad is worse than yours.wink

I wouldn't take a statin on a bet!

I don't blame you a bit, LGS.

Hell, the only doctor I still see every year, is my eye doctor.

I stay far away. If you go to see them, they will practice. On you.

JMHO.

Do what is right, for you.smile

It's not for me.  I don't smoke and my weight is normal and I don't eat fried crap.  So, it is what it is.  I will take pills for somethings.  But, in general I have to see the benefit and it needs to be something i am on board with.

I understand what you mean, LGS.

I'm pretty much, the same way.

I take eye drops, for my glaucoma. That's it. No other drugs, for anything.

I guess my point is...your doctor is your employee.

He/She...works for you.

Don't ever let them brow beat you into a treatment, that you aren't comfortable with.

That's the way I look at it.smile

I agree. But it is a 2 way street. They have to give you the best advice. However, there are some doctors who will drop you from their practice if you dont' do exactly what they want. Fortunately my doc is very easy to talk to. And, i do not seek a lot of treatment that i don't intend to follow through with either so i am not bugging him a lot and thwarting his advice.

Sometimes when I want to be inside the house because I've been away 12 hours working/commuting, and I have the dog out and he lollygags, I ask him if he wants a treat just to get him to want to go back inside. BAD Fur Mommy, BAD

My husband left this morning for 2 weeks. I came home and went to bed and am bawling my eyes out. I don't want him to know cause he would feel bad and I really want him to have a good time...

Hugs, Oh4.

Hang in there.

I know he is missing you, too.

We are here for you. With hugs and kisses.

(I know it's not as good as having G with you, but I hope it helps.)smile

How are you on eating oatmeal? There's been
a lot of info posted that plain ordinary oatmeal
is helpful in reducing cholesterol.

Well, O4, maybe you'd get your mind off it with a trip to the west coast?  Seattle and BC, perhaps?

There has been a lot of info around, about the evil of high cholesterol.

And, a lot of it, is bunk.

Some folks live with it...until they are 100! It runs in their family, and does no harm.

Good grief. High cholesterol isn't that big of a deal. (No one would have lived to be over 100, back in the day...if it had been.) JMHO.

Some docs, would like you to think that. But, I think they're full of prunes.furious (Or, in the pocket of big Pharma, pushing their drug.)

And, after hearing the side effects of the drugs they will want you to take...liver failure, kidney failure, death...etc. Guess what? I'll take my chances! Shove that stuff where the sun don't shine!wink

JMHO. I wouldn't take them, for a billion dollars.

Nope. No way. No how.

The difference in back in the day and now is vast.

Our grandparents did more physical labor and ate more naturally.

Today, cholesterol is more of a problem.

Yes. It can be hereditary, and not everyone needs or benefits from medication.

The plaque build up is what causes problems.

If you ever have to lay on a table aware of everything watching on the screen as a doctor scrapes it from your arteries, you'll have a different perspective.

No. I don't take statins now, per my doctor.

But I may in the future.

And my total cholesterol has been the same since I was in my 20s. 119.

The difference is vast, Lily.

Now, we have commercials, shoving these drugs, down our throats. All day long. During every TV program.

Asking. No, begging us, to ask our doctors, for this latest, greatest drug.

Bull****.

Most of these drugs, do more harm, than good.

Listen to the side effects.

I won't take them.

That's my choice.

If anyone wants to take them, on the advice of their doctor. Fine.

That is their choice. I will pray that it works for them.smile

I lost trust in doctors, a long time ago.

I make my own decisions, when it comes to my health.

My doctor won't even listen to you unless you've had your mammogram. I don't understand his fascination with it. They even called me the other day to tell me I'm way overdo. Blah blah blah. Not going right now.

I have high cholesterol and my doctor wants to put me on statins. I too have refused. Besides, new research is finding that cholesterol is not diet or weight related but a genetic thing. You can't just change it by eating healthier. Though that will help somewhat.

My dad had two open heart surgeries and had low cholesterol. I get a well check once a year and a visit to my gynecologist once a year. So far neither one of them feels that I need any pills.

I see my doctor twice a year* (unless I get sick in between and need an extra visit). I have high cholesterol. I have been altering my diet and lifestyle and have seen some improvement. She is good with holding off on mess as long as I am making positive progress. But the day may come when I need to take the medication, and if that's what she tells me to do, I will. I 100% trust my doctor and her intentions. She is my neighbor and I consider her a close friend. She is not going to recommend something that is not in my best interest.

*professionally that is. I actually see her every week or two out in the yard

Statin drugs have many bad side effects. I would never tell someone not to take them or not to trust their doctor but I do understand why a lot of people don't want to take them.

I've had high cholesterol since God knows how long. It's literally been the same number since I was in my late 20s. When I first had it checked back then and found out it was high, I asked the doc then what I should do. He told me not to worry about it so, I didn't. I'm certainly not going to start worrying about it now. I will do some things differently to try to make a difference but medications aren't one. I don't think the risk of other organs failing is worth it.

My doc said that you can eat oats till you bray but diet cannot change it significantly. It's an endogenous problem not an exogenous one.

My FIL had nuclear stress tests, echos, etc., all came out clear. A couple months later had a heart attack. Those tests don't mean squat.

Back to confessions:

It throughly amuses me when our receptionist gets POed at me when people ask me to do things instead of her. She hasn't figured out that people don't ask her to do these things because she's incompetent. She's convinced I'm out to get her. I just do my job with a smile, which annoys her even more.

Vette, is it carb cravings, i.e. your body trying to counteract the effect of cortisol?  Or do you think it is another issue?  Praying for you...

My confession:

I kiss my dogs.  And I like it.  Apparently so do they.

Actually, I only kiss two out of three, and on the top of the head, not the lips LOL...biggrin

Number three, my dad's little Megan, has Coprophagia so I just pet and scratch her instead.  I just cannot make myself go that close to her mouth with my nose...bleh
