he was hiding behind a wrap which was just plastic, then when there was a break in fire, ran from home base to 1st base dugout where he took off his belt and applied it as a tornaquet to Scalise.

The shooter opened fire for 10 minutes. Scalise had asked Capitol Police to be detailed to their practice or else this would have been a massacre.

A witness stated a man approached them and asked if the reps or dems were practicing, then the shooting took place moments later.

There are many, multiple shootings every day. But very few get media attention. It is sad that we have become accostumed to hearing about it. But the reality is that we hear about shooting every day. Just because it is a Congressman it becomes a big deal? Or a work place? I don't want guns taken away but something needs to be done. We are more worried about a terrorist attack from an extremeist and we don't see the signs in front of us. Majority of attacks on US soil are by US citizens.

BTW, there were also shootings in San Francisco, NYC and Chicago today. And I am sure that at least one person was killed in Philadelphia by a shooting too.

They didn't have security all around them, nor was the local police there. The Sen Scalse had his 2 security agents with him. That was the only security until the local police were called.

I did not hear that. I heard there were a couple of Capitol policemen detailed only because the Whip was there. Had Scalise not been there, there would have been no coverage. At least that's what the DC media is reporting.

Flake added that he saw a member of Scalise's security detail return fire on the gunman for what felt like 10 minutes, even though the police officer was wounded in the leg.
