She gets sprung Monday. My brother is meeting the chair lift people. You know those things on the stairs? He is making her get one. I am laughing away. He is right, though.
Those stair climbers are a blessing! The Uncle I
was taking care of ordered one the day after he
fell trying to go up the stairs with a couple of bags
of groceries. They have (overriding) wall controls
at both the top and bottom of the stairs. The chair
will not move unless it is fully in the safety position
and it will not turn so that the occupant could step
off on the "down" side of the chair unless it is at
the bottom of the stairs.
Yes, they DO have seat belts, and they can be
programmed so they won't move unless the belt
is fastened. They can go around curved stairs,
landings, and right angles.
Whenever I think of those chair lifts, I think of all the horror movies where they are haunted and old ladies get stuck on them and then the chair goes crazy up and down, faster and faster, until she dies.

The neighbor's was added to the side of the house and bumps out. It looks fine from outside. I don't know what it looks like inside....
The only place they could put is was right as you walk in the front door in the foyer. It is open to the third floor. Most of the first floor outer walls are glass.

I feel it's our moral obligation to make sure our parents are cared for but not to be the caretaker. IMO is it's hard and easy to feel bad being the heavy but at a certain point when they can't make good decisions and it's safer for them to be in ALF thats where they need to be. Easier said than done I know. I can say In all honesty I felt no guilt in being the mean guy with my parents and to some friends and family members who were in denial. That's me Mean Mary!
