Yes, we play. I bought the boys a nice wooden board a couple years ago. We haven't played lately, because they threw a snit when they lost. The school offers before and after (school) classes and I thought about signing them up.
Well, we are very, very basic lol. First of all, i guess i need to know what my goal is with the pawns. Do you take them out one step or two? Or kind of alternate them? I have probably played a total of 10 games in my life. But, now, i am catching on to how to start thinking ahead. I play pretty aggressively trying to go in for the kill, but DD wound up taking my Queen on a dumb move. But, then later i was able to march my pawn down to other side and get my Queen back.
Yeah, and i keep forgetting the King can capture. I got too close to the King thinking he had to move out of the way, then i was like, oh yeah, he can take my piece! LOL
We have DH's chess set from when he was a kid. It is the E.S. Lowe Renaissance set . I love the feel and weight of the pieces. He no longer has the board it came with but he has a nice raised wood veneer board. I really like the look of the pieces. i like games that have nice pieces with it and look like the thing they are supposed to be.

You should learn how to play. It's fun. No luck at all. Just pure skill. Once you learn how the pieces move, it will all start to make sense. You need to get a few practice games to nail that down.
