I am starting the Monday thread early given the grave memories of such that day 16 years ago. I have been busy today but have had the documentaries on the TV. Makes me cry every year. Makes me proud each year of our fellow Americans as well.
So this is the Monday thread started early.

There are a few events in history that live in our memories forever. 9/11 is one.
I couldn't watch the programs about it until last year, and I sobbed for days.
I pray for the survivors.

so many acts of heroism, so many selfless sacrifices--may god bless those who lost their lives in the event itself and those who gave their lives in countless efforts to save our countrymen

It was / is a powerful day in our history and one that changed us, and continues to change us, individually and collectively, both for the better and worse.
It seems like only yesterday I watched my co-workers freeze in their offices staring at the cloud of smoke that emanated from the Pentagon, emailing my friend who worked there to see if he made it out (he did, it took him 10 hours to walk home). I still sob if I allow myself to re-live that day. The world changed that day.
If I remember correctly, one of Ed's sons either worked in or had an interview in one of the towers that day but for some reason didn't go. I remember him mentioning his personal story but not sure if I'm remembering the details correctly.

I think his son worked in the city at the time and occasionally hato go the towers.

16 years is a long time. All of our grandchildren were born after the terror attack. For them, this is ancient history and that concept seems so odd to me.
In two short years, the first high school graduation class's, all across the nation, will have lived their entire lives with only images of the Twin Towers. Their world is different from ours. I'm not sure we, as the witness's, can understand their perspective of these events. :(

Czech I think our parents had the same thoughts about us, born after ww2, holocaust, bombing of pearl harbor and the depression. My dd couldn't understand why we weren't thrilled with her going to Vietnam for a vacation. It is strange that their are kids who are graduating has that hasn't either been born or just a baby when 911 happened.
One of the humorous ones: my roommate called me "unamerican" for rooting for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the World Series because they were playing the Yankees. I called her an idiot.

Lindley, you are right.
DH's father fought in the Pacific during WWII, and hated the thought of his son dating a woman of Oriental descent. DFIL never lost that hatred.
Perspective and experience are important to each generation.

My father served in the Cuban Missile Crisis and to this day, claims he doesn't like Cuban food. I make it for him but don't tell him it's Cuban, or he won't eat it.
