I miss spiced apple rings. I found a recipe and I think I'll make some for our Christmas get together.
What's something you haven't had in a very long time that you might consider making for the holidays?

Everyone else in the world is all about pumpkin spice, but I'm an apple fan. All things apple for me.

Popcorn balls. I know you can still find them but it was a "thing" when I was growing up that friends of family would give a tin of homemade popcorn balls. They were so much better than the ones you can buy in the stores today.

Ya'll gonna make candy cigarettes and wax lips for the holidays?

Karl, my cousin makes fudge with karo, I think. I'll ask her for her recipe.

My granny made a chocolate icing, not frosting, icing, that was amazing.
She cooked in a skillet and poured it over a homemade cake. It became a shell as it cooled. It was more like fudge than icing.
We've all tried to recreate that fudgy goodness, but it's just never right.
You know what else she did, and I do it, too, when her cakes were almost cool, she would spoon peach juice over them. Just about 1/4 to 1/2 a cup. The cake goes from good to amazing.

What kind of skillet did she use?

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Cast iron. I have it.

I forgot all about it until it showed up in my FB feed.
It's pistachio pudding, crushed pineapple, chopped pecans, mini marshmallows, and coolwhip.
I think it's what my Aunt would make years ago.

I went decades without homemade pizzelles. My Nonna made them every holiday season. About six years ago, I finally got the recipe from her youngest daughter and I bought a pizzelle iron. The first year I made them about five different times during the holiday season. Each batch makes approximately 60 to 70 cookies and I proudly ate every...single...one myself. hahaha Now, I make them in so many different flavors, everyone wants them but my favorite is still the anise.

I LOVE this. Green fluff. I also love pink fluff. I love, love, love, love, love this. One of my favorites ever.
My mom used to make this. My best friend had a HORRIBLE home life growing up and there was often no food in here house (her mother was off with her BF). One night she came over and was starving. She ate the entire bowl. We still laugh about that. To this day, she says it's the best thing she's ever eaten...

DO you use the anise oil or just the extract? If you have never used the oil, I would try to find some. They are much better that way.

I had forgotten all about this stuff until it showed up in my timeline.
I think my Aunt's had cherries in it, too, or maybe on top.
I bought the stuff to make it yestrrday. Everything except the cool whip. Forgot to get that.
Mom makes orange fluff. Orange jello, cottage cheese, cool whip, and mandarin oranges. It's really yummy. Just the right amount of sweet after a big meal.

Date Nut Bread. My mother used to use ten
tree-shaped mini loaf pans, and we would
make 5-6 batches at a time. We used these
goodies as gifts for the mail man, teachers,
etc. Somehow, the dates that are available
these days just don't taste the same.
Candied Orange Peel. We had to wait for a
non-humid day to make these, otherwise
they would stick together.

I've always used the anise oil and seeds as well. Nonna always just used the seeds but it was never enough flavor for me.
