FNW ~ Peel and cut the spuds into large dice. Cook
until al dente. Drain, put in a container, cover with cold water, put the lid on, and refrigerate. Next day, drain the spuds, and dry them well. Put your butter and milk/cream in a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Dump in the potatoes and stir on medium heat until spuds are warm. Mash; put a clean kitchen towel over the pan, and cover with the lid. (The towel absorbs the steam, and prevents it from getting water logged.) Hold until ready to serve.

I found a recipe for mashed potatoes made in the crockpot on Gimme Some Oven, so I’m going to try that this year.
Hopefully, it will free up the stove and keep them warm until serving.
Omg. Less than 24 hours to go and SIL just invited herself (and her bf) to dinner at my house.
I felt bad and invited her to my dinner when she said they couldn’t afford to leave town like she told me she was last week.
And she apparently asked Husband first and he told her no.
Eggs boiled, biscuits and cornbread made for dressing, turkey has been in the fridge, thawing, for a week, about to make the red velvet cake.
House is clean, dog is trimmed and clean, the yard and carport, which becomes an extra outdoor dining room, is clean and set up.

Mom decided the rug in the dining room needed to be changed, everything has been pulled out and stacked on the counters for tomorrow.
Oh well.
I refuse to let it bother me.

Mom has declared that there will be no seasoning of anything. Period. She doesn't even want to butter the turkey skin.
She said "it's a butterball, it doesn't need anything".

That sounds like a great idea!

I am. She's peeling potatoes right now, I could have had them done a couple hours ago, but she said I didn't do it right. Whatever that means.
So. It's 10pm and she is peeling.
More power to her.
I'm done.

After all the cleaning I've been doing the last 2 weeks, my nails stiLL look pretty good. Just a little touch up in the morning should do it.

Reservations are made for the Sheraton buffet. It is really good. I will miss the cooking and the leftovers but not the clean up.
It will be just DH, MIL and me.
I will make a turkey later for the leftovers.
Each year I come close to this. The club has a nice Thanksgiving buffet, as do several restaurants in the area. I always say, "next year," but then I just can't bring myself to do it or even vocalize it to my family.
This year we will be hosting Christmas Eve and then go to my mom's on Christmas Day. Since the kids were born, we've done the opposite. Which was fine, except I would host a large breakfast AND early dinner, while the boys played with their new toys. It's an exhausting day for me and I'm not doing it this year.
We aren't having our dinner until tomorrow. DS 1 is in the Air Force and we didnt' know until the last minute what day he was coming home. We thought it might be Thurs so I just said we would do dinner on Friday. He is driving from Langley AFB in VA to Pennsylvania. Anyway, he ended up coming home last night! But, my younger son has to work today at Walmart at 6pm and is off tomorrow, so that just worked out better. Gonna make the pies today.
To bad you don't live close by, I got a closet full of wine. Before anyone thinks I'm a wino, my husband joined a couple of wine clubs from some small wineries in Napa and Sonoma and since we don't drink very much it is accumulating.
Not sure why mom doesn't use seasoning. She has such a bland palette.
I don't know of a single food that comes preseasoned.
She will use onion and sage in the dressing, so it's pretty good.
She's never been an adventurous eater.
The boys and I have cleaned the house from top to bottom.
Caitlyn helped me decorate.
I'm done and done.

I mean, I could cook a whole dinner but it is just the three of us. And I don't trust MILs cooking anymore as she gets impatient and turns everything to high so it finishes quicker. Plus I don't like anyone else in my kitchen except DH.
DH picked her up last night and she is either less than 5 feet from me or she is in the bathroom (doing who knows what, not bathroom functions).
I have suggested we eat out several times, it gets met with "that's not what it's about", whatever that means.

And DH went out to "fix" the basketball net which fell the other day and it's now broken. Ugh. It's repairable, we will just need to remove a few very heavy pieces before we can get the main poles back together.

Whew! DD and I have been busy gals! I am doing dinner tomorrow. But, got the turkey out and prepped that. It's in a pan and ready to be seasoned and stuffed. I made homemade bread last night and then i cut those in cubes and lightly toasted two sheet pans of that so i can prep the stuffing later. The sweet potatoes have been peeled, cut, boiled and are now baking in butter and brown sugar in the over. Made my own cranberry sauce. Super simple. DD made spinach artichoke dip and buffalo chicken dip. I toasted some bagels to serve with that and made hot wings. I have a spiral ham and i put that in my crock and put in the fridge for tomorrow. I need to put some type of glaze on that.
DD is planning to make green bean casserole. She loves that. Still have to do the pies and prep the stuffing.

Ugh. Recipe did not work, potatoes were not cooked after 5 hours!
saved it by microwaving them; they did not turn out nice and creamy like usual though
Ham is in the oven (DH doesn't like turkey), pecan
pie was made yesterday, potatoes are peeled, cut,
and waiting to be boiled, dressing is made & cooked,
just waiting for half-time or intermission between
games so DH can do the green bean casserole the
way he likes it. Raisin sauce/glaze for the ham is
done. After all the chaos of the last three weeks,
I'm glad that it is just the two of us.
Tomorrow, we defrost the large upright freezer.
Calling all towels.....calling all towels! No way in
Hell will either of us be shopping tomorrow!
Well. It's over, cleaned up, and in the history books.
However, my mawmaw began feeling bad and now she is in the ER. She was rattling in her chest when she left.

Thank you. Just talked to mom, there have been chest xrays, lab work and a breathing treatment done. No word yet.

I would have gladly shared some with you IKWTDS.
Grrr I used to have a wine cabinet full. Must restock.
