I'm looking forward to having my sister, Irene, come to dinner tonight.

She's going to be surprised at how much Cate has grown since October.smile

It's supposed to be mild and sunny. I hope she's enjoying our Texas weather.

She heads back to Columbus tomorrow.

I hope our Geeks have a good day!

Went to Wal-Mart to have the oil changed,
and they told me they couldn't service my
car !

Apparently, they didn't have the right filter
for my 2017 Ford Focus. Excuse me - the
2018's are out now, and you don't have
2017 oil filters? I've been going to this
Wal-Mart since 2004, and this is the first
time I've had a problem. They DID check
all the fluids, & vacuum out the front, but
didn't charge me. I'll be back at the next
5,000 mile mark. Can hardly believe I've
put on over 10,000 miles since 7/27/17!

Enjoy your visit with your sister FWM!
Momala, that's a lot of miles! When I had my Saturn I once took it to a place that didn't have the right oil filter wrench for my car.

At work now. Roads weren't bad. I did have to salt my driveway and walk way before heading out. Very slippery.

YAY FWM!!!!!!

Ugh, FNW...I thought I was coming down with something earlier this week, but I think I was just exhausted. I got lots of rest and feel much better.

Today, the company is honoring me and a couple of others with a reception. I have been here 20 years this year. Almost half my life. That's just crazy sounding to me...

Enjoying an hour or so of free time then it'll be a day of party prep for me. Have to get everything ready for DS' party. I found a fun game set at Walmart that I'll be modifying to fit the PJ Masks theme. Won't be too hard. I just won't use the decals the game set came with and will make my own. In my experience, the games don't really get played because the kids gravitate to the toys so the game set will suffice. Works for me. Less to do.

Finally have the menu pinned down. Making my roasted chicken meal for DH's half of the party and an Andes mint cheesecake for him. Never did find my biscuit recipe on any of my digital sources and not going to dig through storage to find my paper copy. I think I know the amounts of ingredients and will making a test run with those amounts on Saturday. If it fails, I have a back up plan.

For DS' half of the party, I'm doing homemade chicken nuggets, fruit in jello, and mini cheese rounds/squares. Each food item is themed after one of the PJ Masks villains. The fruit in jello is for Romeo. He's a scientist who is always trying to trap the PJ Masks. So, we're doing PJ Masks (red, blue, and green fruit) in slime (light green jello) because slime is science-y and serving it in clear cups made to look like beakers. The nuggets are for Night Ninja and the cheese rounds/squares are for Luna Girl. For drinks, I'm doing three kinds of Hawaiian punch in the PJ Masks colors.

Geez, I feel very inadequate. The parties my kids got either hot dogs or pizza, chips, cake, and ice cream. No games, they just played in the yard. They loved silly string, though.

Sounds like Lil man is going to have an awesome time.

That's the way parties used to be, lily. Maybe throw in a game or two. We had lot of pool parties, too. But our birthdays were in Fall, so we did slumber parties with pizza or whatever. One I remember going to involved riding in the back of a pickup truck and being taken to the ice skating rink. That was considered extravagant at the time.

DD has grown up in the time of renting or inviting your closest 25 friends to a trampoline place or movie or just whatever.  DD has not had one of those type of parties.  i have hired a clown, a magician, did a 70's karaoke party, sledding in my yard, etc.  I was determined to have her parties at home.  All were fun and although hiring the clown etc cost $300, the rest was pizza and some cute gift bags.  Quite frankly less expensive then the party places and much more enjoyable.

I don't remember a party until I turned 13, then it was a skating party shared with my brother and two friends. The four of us have birthdays within the same 2 weeks.

Jesse liked going to Chuck E. Cheese. Did that a couple times. It's amazing how many showed up for that, its about 40 minutes from here.

Yeah when DS was young and we lived in a small apartment I had his party at one of those Chucky cheese places.  I had been there for other kid parties.  Took an 800MG Ibuprofen before DS' party because those places are headache inducers. Hated those parties.  After that I scaled his parties back to how many I could fit into what ever place I was living.  Scaled down parties are much more fun.

Just got home from a great day. I took the day off (shocking, I know) and my mom and I had a Mother-Daughter shopping day. We had so much fun going to all the different stores. We packed the car to the gills. Ended the night with Japanese dinner.

So much fun spending the day together. Did this last year too, it may become a tradition

Party prep is done for the night. I might work on my shopping list in a bit but I need a brain break.

I enjoy putting together his parties. I'll admit I go overboard but it's worth it seeing his face light up. He helped me assemble the game for his party and gave it multiple test runs. The other game ended up being too complicated for a party so we scratched it. That's ok. There will be more than enough toys to play with.

We thought about doing his party at a party place this year. None of the party packages suited us. Never mind that they cost more than I spend doing it myself. If we were to ever do a party place birthday, we'd pay for the kids as they arrived so we don't end up paying for no shows.

Chuck E Cheese was easy and affordable. We just showed up, everything was set up, we had dedicated servers that handled everything, they cleaned up. All I had to do was enjoy the time with my kids. I saved and used coupons. It wasn't so bad.

But then again, I like amusement park type places.

I remember taking our kids to Chuck E Cheese parties, back in the day.

They were fun!

Home parties were fun, too.

Just a lot more planning, and work. wink

As long as the birthday child, and his/hers friends have fun...that's all that matters.

Right?smile

Growing up, my family had a birthday tradition.
Birthday child had a full day with our Father,
doing whatever we wanted. He closed his
office for the day. My brother chose things
like the zoo, the circus, or the Statue of Liberty.
I chose shopping for a spring wardrobe, then
dinner at Rockefeller Plaza, and an ice skating
lesson. Then we would come home, to ice cream
and cake - just the four of us.

I passed the tradition down to my (step) kids.
They had their Dad all to themselves, and it
was a day full of hugs and kisses. For the
girls, I made a "doll" cake, with elaborate
icing on the "skirt". Took me most of the
day, but they loved it. And Birthday Child
got to select the menu!
