Yep, compared pricing on just the home phone and HS internet and sticking with Comcast but dropped my cable package.  It is going to save me almost $100 per month.

DD and I have been using netflix for a month or so and DS got me a desk top computer and hooked it up last night.  Streaming from the internet is so easy.  So excited.

I have used cable less and less since getting apple TV last year. I am trying to talk DH into cancelling but he's not on board yet.

So I have Netflix, and signed up for Amazon Prime, so lots of options.  Plus YouTube for a lot of shows is free.  Blows my mind how much I will save.  Next year the phone goes away.

GG pays for the cable and phone. He likes his land line.

Thinking of giving up cable, here, too. I don't really want to.

We will keep our landline.

I haven't had a cable / internet bill in over three years. I use wifi hot spots to connect with my laptop. Works like a charm. As for cable, my son and his family have the full package. I sign on through their account and watch what I want that way on my laptop. Some channels I get to see "live" but the major channels I have to wait until the next day and catch them OnDemand.

DS is trying to talk me into purchasing a Firestick or something like that since I have this 46" screen TV that's just sitting there unused. lol

It is nice not to have a $150+ cable bill every month though. I just can't believe how expensive it's gotten to watch TV that actually doesn't have anything really worthwhile to watch anyway.

Get a Roku if you'd like more options.

If it wasn't for my DH being hooked on college sports, we would give up the directtv in a heartbeat. We also need a land line. DH will not use a cell phone due to his hearing loss. Our landline was his life saver this past summer. So, for him, we will keep both.

Besides, we live in the middle of nowhere, remember. lol

Hulu, you need Hulu! I am cancelling my cable. We hardly ever watch it. Can't justify to cost.

That doesn't work for us. We watch several games at a time, and record a good portion. I can record with streaming. That is the ONLY thing holding us back...

DH discovered and ordered "Genie" from DirecTV.
It's a Godsend. He can record up to 4 channels at
the same time. When he is ready to view a show,
he can skip through all of the commercials.

If he is watching a program when I am ready to
serve dinner, he can pause the show, and return
to it after dinner, without missing anything.

Our service is through our electric company, with
"line of sight" antenna. We've only lost signal
three times in over five years of service. Love
you, GVEC!

And cable was shut down yesterday, yet the still billed me for the next month. Nope paid $100 less. Stupid company. So trying to figure out HD.If you stream directly from a site without and app, no HD. I think I can fix that through my TV settings. Need to figure that out.

We haven’t had cable in almost ten years now. Between Netflix and prime we always have plenty to watch.
I didn’t like Hulu. I can’t stand ads anymore.
We have also been using Kodi instead of roku.

Kodi, will have to look into that. I feel so relieved and as if I am giving the cable company the screw job they have done to me for years.

haven't had cable for a very long time--haven't had a landline now for 6 or 7 years--we have some sort of netflix/amazon deal that she arranged--$25 a month or so--haven't even WATCHED a network program in 7 or 8 years--if memory serves, last superbowl we saw was maybe 2005-- just not interested as it's mostly garbage programming

So trying to figure out how to stream local TV news stations. They all have free apps for the phone but I can't find them for a desktop. Anyone know how to do this?

CBS does not have a free one. You have to pay a monthly fee, that much I know.

Well, they have an app, but you can't watch live without the fee.

Go to settings on your computer and link your phone?

I could do without cable but DH loves his sports. However, we still need internet and a landline. Though, i am ready to ditch the landline. We only have 3 TV options here, Xfinity, Dish and Direct TV. Right now we have a bundled package deal.

Get yourself the fire stick or a Roku (I prefer the Roku).  Seriously, you'll be able to stream all that on the big TV - much better than a computer screen. Depending on the one you get, it can be as cheap as $30.

I ordered the Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa. Great deal with Prime. Does anyone use this? Need to learn what free services I can use.

The boys' taekwondo master brought one in to summer camp to watch a movie. They said it didn't work very well. My parents received one for Christmas but they don't know what to do with it. They might give it to us.
