Good morning! It was 8* when I got up this morning. But, the sun is out making it look warmer. I awoke with a massive headache and stiff neck. It hurts no matter which way I try to turn it. *pouts* DGD spent the night so we can go shopping . . . whenever she gets up that is. She's still sleeping. Other than that, I'm veggin' with my cuppa and trying to stretch out this stiff neck. Have a great day!

Sounds like we are all in the deep freeze. It was -8 when I got up, it is -2 now. Hope it gets above 0 today, because it didn't yesterday. Brrr!

Poor Sam makes quicker and quicker pee's outside. Poor pouch.

Plan on staying inside today. I may have to get groceries, I said "may".

A good book and a warm quilt is in my future. :)

Stay warm and safe folks!

Birthday boy is still sleeping. He has one present to open then we're taking him for a birthday lunch and he's off to his great grandma's for the next few days. He fell asleep early last night. Said playing with his new toys made him tired. Poor kid?

We are a balmy 37, real feel of 27.

Dad's birthday party on the 30th.

Ice in the forecast for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Aaron and I are still sniffling and sneezing.

My head is starting to feel like a hammer keeping time.

Mom's in a mood.

You win the coldest temps. I would add some adult hot chocolate in your plans.

Drizzly and rainy here in "Sunny" south Texas.
Good time to curl up with a good book.

DH is flat on his back. The flu shot he got was
not effective. Grrrrr. Doctor's appointment
tomorrow morning.

When did he get the shot?  could be he had the bug in his system already or it is a new variant which is not yet in the flue vaccine.

This year's flu shot is only about 10% effective.  A total waste, IMO.  Of course, I'm against the flu shot, anyway, unless you are really young or old and feeble.

I'm required to get the flu shot. If I don't I better have a Dr. note that says I'm terribly allergic to it. If I didn't get the shot I'd have to wear a mask while at work until April.

I get one through work, plus when I get the shot they put $50 into my HSA.

My sister and her family all work in health care. They ALL got the flu shot and they ALL have had the flu over the last two weeks.

Yup, it was worthless this year.

When DH had his surgery, they asked him if he wanted the shot, he said no, and they did not push it on him. I heard later that the hospital was hit especially hard with the flu and they ALL had the flu shot. no

My mom did not get it this year either. She's 81.

Back in Staten Island, I had what is called a
"heatolater" insert for the fireplace. Basically
five hollow 5" wide tubes, bent into a C shape,
with the top extending about 6" into the room.
You would build your fire on the lower tubes,
and normal convection would draw cool room
air into the tubes, heat it as it passed under
the fire, and expel it into the room.

Ours raised the living room 15*, the dining
room 10*, and the kitchen and den 5*. The
upstairs was a toasty 20* higher than the
thermostat was set at (remember, hot air
rises). Sure helped with the heating bills.

I get the shot because I am immuno-compromised and I am regularly around several others who are as well.  Plus being around several elderly who should take precautions.

I learned something today. Had never heard of a "heatolater" before today. Sounds like it worked great.

It really did. And if you opted for the optional
"squirrel cage" fan, it was even more efficient.
The fan could be positioned in the basement
(drill a hole in the floor for the flexible hose)
and you could really make a difference.
