All surgeries are cancelled. It's just too dangerous to get people on the roads since nothing is plowed. I think they might be dumping sand on some of the bridges. Last snow was about an inch 8 years ago.
We are experiencing wind gusts so it feels much colder than the low 20's they are reporting. Got an inch of snow so schools closed (eyeroll) and government is on optional telework schedule. So of course, I'm teleworking. DH is shoveling the driveway.
Good morning! I awoke to a dusting of about half an inch. It's flurrying now. Maintenance was around the complex with the leaf blower to clear the sidewalks. Temp is hovering around 20* with a real feel of 5*. I'm sure with the wind chill it's below zero. Being just about three hours inland from the Atlantic coast, I'm surprised we're not seeing more snow but it doesn't look like we'll be getting much. I was kind of hoping for a foot or more. I kept hearing about all these "major Nor'easters" we were going to get massacred with but I'm still waiting. hahaha
Be safe out there! The wind is really whipping here now.
Yesterday, Anchorage Alaska was warmer than San Antonio! Crazy, crazy weather.
Actually, this is not unusual during the winter. The rollercoaster jet stream accounts for some of the difference, the rest is due to Anchorage being on the coast and warmer water coming up from the south.
The weather stations do use this for drama effect though. lol

If your car doesn't have a garage or carport,
wrap your side view mirrors with plastic wrap,
several layers, and use a small amount of
duct tape to secure it.
Also stretch plastic wrap over your front and
rear windshields. This is a two person job.
Do the bottom of the windshield first, and
overlap the next layer, like shingles or
siding. Secure the wrap with duct tape.
When you come out in the morning, and are
greeted with ice/snow all over your car, and
your neighbors are fighting with ice scrapers
and brooms, you will blithely lift off the plastic
wrap and have perfectly clear windows and
mirrors. Just be sure to remove the snow/ice
from the roof of your vehicle first!
My technique? Throw on a jacket, boots, get in car, start, turn on defroster, go back in house. Drink coffee, use the bathroom, apply lipstick. Finalize wardrobe layers, check yourself in the mirror. Get in car, run windshield wipers & rear wipers (if included), drive off.

It's illegal to leaving an empty car running in Texas.
We would get fined for that, if the police happened by, and caught us.

My mother bought us these for Christmas - they are frost guards for the windows.

Even in your own driveway?

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
I never leave the house to start my Wrangler in weather like this. I have a remote starter! I would never buy a vehicle without one. Even in summer it's great because I can set the AC and it cools it off before I get out there. LOVE IT!

OK - I looked it up. Geez. But you can get around the law with a remote starter b/c the key is not in the ignition.
(b) The requirements of Subsections (a)(1), (2), and (3) do not apply to an operator who starts the engine of a vehicle by using a remote starter or other similar device that:
(1) remotely starts the vehicle's engine without placing the key in the ignition; and
(2) requires the key to be placed in the ignition or physically present in the vehicle before the vehicle can be operated.

Is it illegal due to easy theft or environmental issues?
Probably both.
I know in Fort Worth a few years ago, warnings went out during cold weather, not to leave you car running in your driveway, because car thieves would go out looking for easy pickings.
Three of our cars have heated seats, 1 of those has a heated steering wheel. The brake and gas pedals also rise up and down for short/tall people on the one with both.
Guess which car I drive 99.9% of the time...

I think it’s mostly due to safety issues. Leaving a running vehical unattended it could cause injury if it would “pop into gear” get moving. This is not as much a concern in newer vehicles and most of these laws have been on the booksnfor a whole.
it is illegal in Ohio to leave your car running also. not sure about an exception for remote start. But, the law is very rarely enforced. However, we are not allowed to start our cars at work, even with remote start. I love my boss, but sometimes he goes a little too far with the rule following.

I dated a guy with a Jeep that had the moving pedals. I ended up just moving the seat anyways. I wasn’t used to sitting that far back and I was all disoriented on where to look and spotting stuff out the window. I supposed I would have gotten used to it, but I didn’t drive his car much.
I break the law every time I have to go out in cold weather. I go out, start the vehicle, lock it, cause I have more than one key, let it run for 5-10 minutes. If I get a ticket, I'll pay it and keep on doing what I do.
We have a neighbor who is an officer, he does the same thing.
With his cruiser no less.
