Church called and asked that we pick up the boys from class. #2 has a lingering cough from his cold but they didn't like it and feared the flu. Uh, coughs can last up to two weeks following cold symptoms, but I guess with the large number of flu cases, they just wanted to be careful. I get it. But ugh. I am keeping him home from his basketball game because I don't want him to have a relapse. When he's recovering, running around a lot can trigger a coughing attack, and I can just imagine the looks we'd get. (For those who don't know, #2 was born with a coupy sounding cough because of tracheamalacia.)
And I swear, everyone that has had the flu, that I've known of, got the shot.

And I swear, everyone that has had the flu, that I've known of, got the shot.
 And that is because the shot 6 months ago did not have the antibodies for the latest strain. wouldn't hurt to get the newest one.
 The guy at the doctor's office last week got his flu shot around Christmas. It was supposed to be the new one. It didn't do him any good.

We have a nursing home that was quarantined for 2 weeks because it was so bad in the facility. 90% had gotten the flu shot, of that 90%, 60% tested positive for Flu type A. The rest for type B.
Of the 10% who did not get the flu shot, 3 people tested positive for type B.
Now, I ain't a genius, but something seems fishy in the pudding.

I voluntarily got the flu shot in 1996. I got the flu once in 2000/2001 (over New Year's holiday). I was under the weather for a week before seeing the doctor. They never told me I had the flu, just bronchitis by that point.
I lost my sense of smell for several months from that infection.
I was stuck with the shot once by my doctor, probably 7 years ago before I could say, "no thank you." That was the last time I got the flu shot.
The boys have received a flu shot every year of their lives. DH gets it every year as well.
