I missed it. I am up every morning between 6 and 6:30 to take my meds, this morning I slept right through.

Oh well, I'm sure there will be pictures.

Happy Wednesday.

Sun came up and ruined it in my neck of the woods.

Bummer! I didn't even know about this event. I probably wouldn't've been able to view it anyway since it's so cloudy here.

DH is sick now. He never gets sick. He went back home after taking the boys to school. I'm worried about him.

My chest cold loosened up overnight. Past two days my chest felt heavy. So I woke up and the hacking and sneezing and nose blowing has been unleashed. I stayed home to work. I feel ok but it would be too gross to co workers to go in to the office.

I have a bunch more to accomplish today but may take a break so I can rest.

My poor sister just called me in tears. She has been having a lot of medical problems and now she thinks she has shingles. She's in a lot of pain and frustrated. She just can't catch a break.

Shingles are awful.  Mom has an outbreak every few years and suffers terribly.

She's headed to urgent care. Her hubby is out of town. And she's worried because she didn't shave her legs. Silly lady!

Awe, so sorry for your mom, SB. I've had shingles twice, not fun.

IKWTDS, hope you are feeling better!

FNW, hope your DH is better as well!

FWM, I watched the lunar eclipse this morning as well. A beautiful crisp, clear sky. Perfect for viewing, until the dawning light got to bright. We reached full eclipse at 6:49. Awesome!

Got the running errands done for this week today. Always good to have those chores off the weekly list.

Okay, you can get Shingles, if you had Chicken Pox, as a child.

Right?

And, the virus becomes active, when you become older.

Right?

And, that's how you get Shingles.

But, they won't give you the vaccine, until you're 60 or older.confuse

(Well...maybe you can push for the shot. But, I don't think insurance will pay for it, unless you're over 60.)

I'm I wrong? Or missing something?

Clue me in, please.

Thanks!

I was 48 when I had the shingles for the first time. Second time was about 2 years ago. I need to get the shot now. But you are right, they do not recommend the shot before the age of 60.

My doctor also said it's extremely rare to get the shingles more than twice. We will see. Knowing my luck...sigh.

Praying that you never get it again, Czech!

I think you can get the shot at 50. Sis is 55. She said she had been considering the shot very recently. She is having bad thyroid problems so she's been focusing on that.

Thank you, FWM. I hope I never get it again too. It really is very painful. I also hear you on the not going to a doctor. I rarely go myself. They know I'm really bad if they see me come in the door.

SB, if she has been having thyroid problems, the stress probably triggered the shingles. Stress is the main cause of a shingles attack. Experience speaking here. Sigh

It's not just old people that get shingles. I was 26 when I had shingles.

How does that happen?

I've never heard of anyone, so young, getting the Shingles?

Fill us in, please.

My friend had the shingles in her early twenties too, I guess it was pretty awful.

I'm so tired lately, I've been sleeping on breaks at work, taking a nap when I get home, and going to bed early. I don't know what's going on, maybe I'm just working too much. Yaawwwwnnn

DD's friend had it three times before age 30. Doctors can't figure out why.

I asked my doctor the same thing at the time. How does an otherwise healthy 20-something get shingles?

his answer: shingles is caused by the same virus as chicken pox. When you have chicken pox, your body develops antibodies that in essence keep the virus in check, but the virus doesn't actually go away. According to Dr. Martin, the antibodies keep the virus in jail in your spine. However, other factors can weaken those antibodies, allowing the virus to breakout of jail and cause shingles. In my case, he figures the stress of finally starting a new job after months of only part time work, weakened my immune system enough to allow the virus to overpower their guards.

I was lucky, it was a relatively mild case. But it was still not a pleasant experience that I'm not eager to repeat.

Vette ~

For unexplained exhaustion (sleeping on breaks),
PLEASE PLEASE have your Dr. check for Mono!

Yeah, that's right, the teen-age Kissing Disease.
You are young enough to be in the "target" age -
and there is no known origin - its not something
that you can identify as a specific cause.

Back in the '60s, I'd get up, get on the commuter
train, sleep for 65 minutes; get to work; sleep my
entire lunch break; work; sleep 65 minutes back
home; eat dinner; sleep until morning and repeat
the entire sequence. Yep. Full blown mono.

Please, sweetie. Have this checked out.
Especially since you occasionally have such a
high risk incidence in your work (working on
VERY high level projects)!

Hugs
Momala & DH
