According to a new report, the gunman behind the recent shooting at a school in Florida took an Uber to the school the day of the shooting.
Naples Daily News reports Nikolaz Cruz, the gunman responsible for the recent shooting at Broward County high school in Parkland, Florida, has told law enforcement officials that he took an Uber to the school the day of the shooting and carried additional ammunition with him. Cruz, who is 19 years old, is currently facing 17 charges of premeditated murder and is being held in custody at the Broward County jail without bail. According to authorities, Cruz took an Uber to school along with a concealed AR-15 rifle and extra ammunition.
Cruz reportedly arrived at the school in a small, gold-colored vehicle according to an eyewitness. The driver of the Uber confirmed to law enforcement that she had dropped Cruz off at the school. According to the Palm Beach Post, Uber released a statement saying, “We will share any information with federal and local officials that may be helpful to their investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Parkland community, especially the individuals affected and their families, at this time.”
Cruz was wearing a maroon shirt, black pants, and a black hat and carried a black duffel bag and backpack. The eyewitness described Cruz as a “former troubled student,” and said they watched as Cruz walked towards one of the school buildings, moments later gunshots were heard, and the eyewitness called a “Code Red.” After the shooting, Cruz used the ensuing chaos to blend in with the crowd and evade law enforcement but was caught a short while later and taken into custody.
Law enforcement also spoke to a local family that Cruz was living with, the family told police that Cruz was living with them for “the past few months” and that his parents had died. Cruz told law enforcement that he had planned to dispose of his weapons and slip into the crowd of students unnoticed after the shooting. The FBI was reportedly made aware of threatening comments from a YouTube account bearing Cruz’s name but the bureau was unable to track down the teenager.
So , apparently the mother of the shooter has an estate worth $800K. The guardians are trying to dip into that but it isn't theirs to inherit so not sure if they will get away with that.
However, she had the means to pay for the best mental health treatment. And, it sounds like she really did make every attempt to address it. So, if the best mental health treatment that money can buy didnt' really work, then what will?

She wants to make sure the brother gets all the help he needs is what I heard.

Commitment.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
The woman who took in Cruz and his brother after their adoptive mother died called the police in late November to report that Cruz was exhibiting dangerous behavior including holding a gun to her son's head. The police did nothing.

Which is flat out insane. Absolutely insane. Had he been arrested then and charged with a gun crime, he would not have been able to legally own a gun. Everyone wants more gun control, but damn it! Do something with the laws we have already!

If a potential shooter knows that teachers are allowed to carry concealed but he won’t know who does ... perhaps that would be a deterrent. Since concealed means you don’t know for sure.

Exactly. Which is the point of allowing teachers who want to be armed, to be armed. Love how CNN is trying to spin it as a forced job responsibility. Eye roll

I think we just need to get focused and have a trained Security Staff. Marshalls could pop in and out but I think the kids and staff need to know who to go to in that kind of crisis.
I'll disagree. The last two school shootings involved an insider. Former students. Why let these deranged people know who to hit up first? I'm pissed because my school district is posting videos of emergency procedures. Great, now the bad guy knows how to get around it. There's a reason national security measures are not disclosed to the public. Because security should not be broadcast. Let's just go share our alarm code with everyone. (sarcasm) I think it's better if armed & trained remain anonymous.

I understand your point. And, there are things that are kept confidential at school. But, a crisis needs leadership. And, kids need to know who is in charge, who to go too and who to listen too. You need a captain. And, I think armed security is the way to go. ANd, many schools already have that and they often build very good relationships with the kids as well. And, yes you might know who they are but you don't know their foot patrol or schedule, etc.
As for Air marshalls, how often are they really on planes? Yes, I hear of it, but i highly , highly doubt there is an air marshall on every plane taking off every day.

I know one. He gets called last minute all the time to fill in for other sick marshals.

I disagree with you. Even a former student is not going to know which teachers are carrying. And just the fact that multiple people are carrying would have deterred Cruz: he did not want to die and immediately upon arrest offered to plead guilty in exchange for no death penalty so I think him knowing that an untold number of staff members were carrying would have deterred him.
The Aurora CO theatre shooter stopped when confronted by a patron with a gun. Although the theatre was a gun free zone, that patron had one.
Gun free zones are targets. Plain and simple. And yes, security should not be broadcast in detail. Stupid.

So Scot Peterson now needs to have police security with all the death threats against him. He was a trained Police Officer that was too scared to do his job, I am sure he thought he would be killed had he confronted Cruz. But had he used his training it is not necessarily true he would have died. He was trained, Cruz was not. And now Peterson's life is not worth a nickle. My guess is he will take his own life.
The school officer at DD's school wears a bullet proof vest. Every day this week I had to pick her up from school due to her after school activities. I watched how all the kids were leaving the school; chaos, easy for an outsider to tailgate in with out being buzzed in etc. THAT is the break down in the security at our schools and that is the problem that needs to be solved.

But if no one really knows for sure if one is present, regardless of whether there actually is on on board, is this not a deterrent?
I'm all for teachers arming themselves, provided they do so legally and make sure the gun cannot fall into the wrong hands.
You know what? The conservative voting states will fix the security issue for their own states, the liberal ones won't. Guess which states will be sitting ducks? Maybe a hard lesson to learn but an over due one.

4 Officers and NOT ONE went in! Trump needs to open an investigation from the FBI who failed to the local police. Homeland security should get involved. And, this idiot Sherrif Israel should be put on leave immediately pending an investigation.
I heard that they didn't either have their body cameras or were having issues and we're told not to go in without them. I don't know if that was true or not. I heard that on the Ingram show
The PROTOCOL for an active shooter is for the first officer on the scene is supposed to storm the building and engage the shooter. That is the Protocol and standard. If they were told not to go in, who told them that? That is completely wrong and if they were indeed told that, there needs to be a thorough investigation and a lot of heads should roll.
There is no standing down. There is no waiting for reinforcements. This was learned after Columbine. Law enforcement doesnt' wait. These shootings happen rapidly and the shooters intend to kill as many people as quickly as possible so the first officer to arrive is supposed to enter the building and attempt to take down the shooter.
