What do you think of class field trips where you have 4 girls or boys in a room with 2 q beds and they are expected to share a bed? I mean, we used to do this all the time.
I am just begging the question. And honestly suprised this hasn't come up. I presume that in olden days, there was a presumed sexual attraction so that is why the sexes were seperated. Also, for modesty reasons. But, now, would you be OK for your straight son to share a bed with an overtly gay boy? I mean, sure that probably happened in the past but really it didnt' occur to most people back then i am guessing.

I know with the 8th grade field trip the kids choose who they are rooming with. Wouldn't the band do that too?

Yes, they do choose to some extent. But, there are kids who are assigned based on odd numbers, etc. For Regions band, she did go with another female student, but there was only one malke student from our district so he was just assigned roommmates.
I mean in my day, we showered together after gym class. That was just starting to fade out when i was in school but that was a "normal" thing. Now, the kids don't shower anymore.
We had showers but no one used them. We really didnt' sweat enough to need them, and we were too modest. There were a couple of "strange" girls that we would hide ourselves when we changed. But my BFF's and I used to sleep together at each other's houses and it was no big deal. I never knew any boys who had slumber parties. That to me just seems weird unless they are camping somewhere with their own sleeping bags and it's a bunch of guys, 3 at the minimum.
I can't imagine any high school guys wanting to share rooms with each other. DHH used to take golfing trips with his friends. But they each had their own bed, if not their own room.

And it isn't like a gay person is going to attack the sleeping straight person.
It's usually the gay person who ends up being mistreated.

I didnt' say i was 'worried' about it. And, you dont' always room with friends if you are going to Regional or State levels. You might be the only person from your school. But, with all the #metoo and what not, unfortunately it is something to consider nowadays.
I don't see what the problem is, I shared a bed during sleep overs and trips with my friends into my early 20s.
My daughter does, as well.
Boys, on the other hand, seem to stop sharing beds sooner.
Heck. When I turned 21, 6 of us, male and female, all shared a single room. We rotated who slept were. That was the cheapest trip ever.

I shared a room and a bed with a guy I had never met a couple times in Vegas. My BFF's boyfriend's friend. It was to save money. One guy, Johnny, flew from Philly and I flew from Baltimore and we both flew red-eye. The second night we were so exhausted we went up to our room around 4 PM and passed out until the next morning. Everyone else thought we were messing around when we didn't show up for dinner. Nope. We were tired.

We didn't have overnight trips when I was In school, but my kids did. They always shared beds, either with me (if I chaperoned, which was 90% of the time) or with a friend. I never thought a thing about it.
My choir did go to NYC to sing at St Patrick's on St Patrick's Day, but my parents and sister went, so we had our own room...one of my sister's friends stayed with us, so I got the rollaway...even though I had the only solo. I also got my very first migraine on that trip...

Oh goodness, the bus rides to and from events were usually when things got personal.
The back of a dark bus can be a very interesting place.
Even with adults and chaperones on there.

Lodge had a Pilgramage for Youth every year (except for this year) where over 200 kids from all over the world (mostly the US) come together. There are a few who may know each other if htey are coming from the same area. But for the most part, they know no one. They get bunked 4 to a hotel room that has 2 beds. Up to the kids to figure the rest out.
But boys in boys rooms, girls in girls rooms. They get sent home on parents dime if caught in a room they are not supposed to be in.
