So a FB friend is getting remarried, she is about my age.  We were neighbors growing up.  She posted this on her FB page:

Do any of my friends have promotional items, gift cards or any new items they would like to donate for me as I am in the process of making all the raffle baskets for my jack and Jill!

So second marriage and turning her Jack and Jill into a fund raiser??? And wants others to pay for the items being raffled?  OMG

Does she like hairbows?

You put a sticker on your product saying something like "donated by so-in-so, call number for more information on purchasing" and turn it into an advertising gimmick.

Cross between a shower and engagement party.

I'm always amazed at the "freebies" my cousin's wife tries to get from people on FB, too.

I'm always amazed by the number of parties and showers people have now a days.

And that people do "goody bags" for anything over a 5 year olds birthday party.

Never heard of a Jack & Jill, and never heard of raffle baskets, either.

Tacky all the way around.

I never understood that either.  Or wedding favors.  What do people do with them afterwards?  Seems like a waste of money.

My "wedding favor" was an extra piece of cake to take home.

That's the kind of favor everyone likes!

My DH's favorite cake is pound cake. Never heard of using it in a wedding cake, however.

In the south, they are almost all pound cakes.  Luckily, we have the groom's cake to make up for it.

What's wrong with pound cake?

My cake was three layers, lemon, white chocolate with raspberry center, and vanilla.

The grooms cake was a box chocolate his mother made cause God knows she couldn't bake and was so cheap, she sure wasn't going to order one.

My cousin's daughter is getting married in November. She registered honeyfund.com. WTF? Has anyone seen this before? They want money for their honeymoon. It's all broken down by hotel room, excursion, meals, drinks, etc. Every little expense. Talk about a gift grab.

At first, I thought it was tacky, too. Had serious icky feelings about it. But times are different. No one needs housewares anymore.
As long as it's not in the invitation, I'm ok with it.i mean, if a guest is going to spend money, it may as well be what they want.
When I got married the first time, the best gift (for me) was a hand held blender. I still use that thing, 25 years later.
Most couples marrying these days have all household needs....

One of the most surprising gifts DH
and I gave one of his friends was a
complete herb/spice basket. Do you
have any idea how much a complete
spice grouping can be? OMG is was
more than $75!

And I had a great time wrapping each
spice separately. DH and I spent a
lot of time and effort surprising them
with all the spices they would need
for the next 12-18 months. We can
hardly wait to visit them for dinner !

Even though it wasn't  wrapped  individually  receiving  a dish rack full of spices was my favorite  gift at my wedding  shower

Sigh, she just posted an invite on FB to the shower and is charging $20 / head. And the invite is on her page and not as a private event.

I can't believe that people would even consider paying to go to a shower and still be expected to bring a gift

And so ticket cost to her Jack & JIll are $20 per person or $30 per couple. Such discrimination against singles. Oh and don't forget to buy your raffle tickets to win baskets filled with donated goodies. :eyeroll:

Wait. Selling tickets to an event that usually involves getting gift?

Now that's about as tacky as it gets.

I'd be letting them know that, too.
