Just thinking the other day about how excited I used to get over the 4th. This was in primary school.
The parade in the morning; carnival and rides during the day, fireworks at night. So many different people, so many things to see. The House of Mirrors; the Ghost House, ride the merry-go-round, the Ferris Wheel. Eat Cotton Candy and get it all over my face, clothes, etc... Looking back at it seems we were pretty naive or simple. But I guess it was a simple era. WWII was over, Boys coming home, rationing ended, etc. etc. Korea and McCarthy had not started yet....
Anyway, all of you enjoy Fourth in the way you like best.
Had a 15 minute deluge, and now it's constant explosions.
We went out to eat, then to Walmart.
I found a sheet set, finally.

We grew up with a swimming pool, so we had the BBQ parties. Fireworks were illegal, but neighbor had a police scanner so we shot them off anyway. After they moved, we'd move the pool party to my aunt's house in Arcadia where they were legal, and where her house had a view of the big ones shot off at a nearby park.
Yesterday we had Declaration of Independence trivia contests. The boys hemmed and hawed, but eventually got into it. I think we all learned quite a bit of history yesterday. Then we spent the afternoon in the pool, grilled burgers & dogs, but decided the heat was too much and ate inside. The heat got to mom and I didn't want to risk her health. After the sun went down it was much cooler and DH lit the fireworks while we sat on the driveway and watched. Neighbor had some good fireworks as well, and together we lit up the sky. God Bless America.
