New dress code

So, I've got to deal with a teenager and a dress code for the first time.  I love the clear guidelines of this -

Body must be covered from the neck to the knees and shoulder-to-shoulder Shirts • No spaghetti straps, strapless tops, muscle shirts, sleeveless shirts with large arm openings • Tank tops must meet the 2 finger width and cover bra straps. Sheer shirts can ONLY be worn with a tank top underneath • Shirts should not expose cleavage or midriff (this includes stomach and back) Pants/Shorts • Pants must be worn at the waist and should cover undergarments • Leggings, jeggings, or tights will only be allowed if they are worn with a shirt that is long enough to cover the entire rear end • Shorts should be mid thigh or longer Dresses/Skirts • No extended splits • Must not be too tightly fitted • Should be mid thigh or longer, even when worn with leggings Headgear • No headgear of any kind is allowed in the building. This includes but is not limited to headbands, earmuffs (when not used for cold weather), hats, scarves, hoods, snoods, and bandannas General clothing, headgear, and jewelry • No sexually suggestive or vulgar language or symbols • No advertising of drugs, alcohol and/or tobacco products • No derogatory, inflammatory, demeaning words symbols or groups not sanctioned by the SCHS and CO • No gang related clothing or symbols • No holes, cuts, and/or rips on clothing above the knees unless tights are worn underneath • No pajama wear • No wallet chains or similar accessories • No spiked or nubbed rings or bracelets that may be used as weapons • Proper undergarments must be worn and not visible • Safe and appropriate footwear must be worn (No bedroom shoes) • The appropriateness of anything not covered by the above dress code will be at the discretion of the administration

Gee..... How about everyone wearing the choir robes of yesteryear? Completely covered from neck to hands to the floor and were loose fitting.....

On another note, I can only see problems with this dress code.... Anything not covered by the above dress code will be at the discretion of the administration..... Oh, yeah....

It's not as bad as you think.

And accessories can make a WORLD of difference in the perception of fitting the dress code.

Top seems to be a little too low? A chunky necklace or a scarf fills in the blank space.

Basically, if you would feel comfortable wearing it to a church function, it'll be fine.

Still beats uniforms. The public schools here are all uniforms.

I don't see a problem with it, personally. I can understand from the description what they are trying to prohibit as far as teen trends.

Oh, I don't have a problem with it. It's just a matter of finding appropriate clothes. All the clothes in the stores are ridiculous - ripped jeans, etc.

I actually love the language of it. Keeps it simple, stupid. And no saggy pants!

So many people complain that dress codes are sexist - but a lot of this is directed at boys, too.

I do think it funny they have to tell them not to wear pajamas to school. LOL.

Some schools actually have pajama day.  Which is ridiculous to encourage them to wear pjs on one hand and then not allow it on another.

Well, Pajama DAY vs. pajamas every day is a distinction. But the middle schools and high schools do not have pajama day around here. That stops after elementary school.

I wish schools kept a uniform.

It doesn't have to be crazy.

Polo Shirt and jeans.

But that is a good, straightforward dress code.

It is hard to find jeans that aren't ripped.

Probably be easier to just order them online.

One of the high schools I went to had a uniform like this. Dark blue or white pants or jeans. Red, white or blue collared shirts (plain-no designs or writing). No cleavage or midriff, no saggy pants.

I remember my school dress code saying boys shirt tails must be tucked in. Gawd I'm old.

I can remember jobs that required a coordinating blazer be worn with pants, and of course, no dresses without pantyhose.

In my (Catholic) HS it was 'their' skirt. Gross polyester thing and solid colored top with a collar. Sooo I had Nana embroiler a lace collar. I would where a tee shirt and if anyone started I would tie on the collar. Let me tell you it was tons of laughs. Then I had the skirt made with wool. Same cut, Etc. Just not polyester.

I think a simple uniform of jeans or khakis with a polo shirt would be perfect. Plain (non-designer) polo shirts are cheap, and it would cut down on so much hassle.
