I am clinging desperately to these last days. Good news is the internet connection works well enough for me to work from the cottage.

For personal reasons I’ll be glad to see August go.

It already feels like Fall around here. I actually pulled the comforter on last night. *sigh* I can't believe winter is just around the corner. More rain on the way today / tonight.

We won't see cool temps for another 2 months or so. 😓

That's usually how it is here too but this Summer's been very unusual. I just hope it's not a sign of things to come in winter. UGH

It's been humid, but cooler here, lately.

Saw a winter outlook that said a harsher winter for the southeast.

7 to 10 significant snow events this winter for us.

The whole east is supposed to get hammered this year.

I've got orders for a couple Halloween wreaths, and am buying up Christmas stuff for decorations, wreaths, garland, and such.

Vacation in 5 weeks!

I know.

I'm so thankful I won't have to deal with the snow days and early dismissals.

Today is the first of many picture days for DS. Can't wait to see how they turn out. They had a promo to add his name and grade to the pics and remove blemishes so we did that. Figured we'd have his school pics look as professional as possible since we have plenty of candid shots. We got the largest package so plenty of pics to pass around.

He's really enjoying school. He got a new teacher. Not sure what happened to the other one but the new one absolutely adores DS and how excited he is no matter what the class is doing. The new teacher is also a good match for DS - super energetic and bounces around the room just like DS. Really happy we found this school.

Nice chef!

Wouldn't it be hilarious if all you Southerners get more snow than us northerners?

 It would.

Of course, that means everything here will come to a grinding halt.

As long as I can get to the store for my milk sandwiches .

Chef ~
"Milk sandwiches" refers to the mad
dash to the store to pick up milk and
bread as soon as a snowstorm is in
the weather prediction. Nobody knows
what happens to all that bread and milk
once the 1/4" of snow stops falling

Sometimes, I'm at the grocery stores and the shelves are wiped of bread. Then I know I missed a storm alert.

We call it French toast time. Milk, bread and eggs.

Just went to Home Depot. They already put the snow blowers out, next to the grills. 🤔😔

Ah. I can only the chaos if we actually got snow here. It graupeled in 2013 and you would've thought the world ended. It was pretty neat. A winter wonderland in February. DH and I threw graupel balls at each other. I was surprised it stuck to the ground for more than a few minutes.

Arizonans are a funny bunch. You know when it's raining outside because the exit of the store is clogged with people staring outside murmuring amongst themselves as if the rain is some toxic liquid. Every so often a brave soul will head for their car. DH and I just head on out since it's just water.

Yep.

People around here go nuts when snow is predicted .

We've grilled in the snow, too.

When I was a kid, we had a wood heater, when the power was out, we'd lift the protective top, and cook on the heater.

Cast iron gets hot enough to boil things.

You could wrap things in heavy foil and put it in the ash pan, and roast and bake.

And we could make smores any time we wanted.

We've used our grill side burner when the power went out to heat cans of chili or soup in a pinch.

I've used the grill in power outages as well. Can't grill in the winter. Way too cold. Grill won't keep a safe meat cooking temp.

I would not open my refrigerator or freezer during a power outage. We would fix something from the pantry or go out if possible.

During the blizzard, we took the stuff out of the fridge and put it outside in the snow.
