I’m drinking my first carton right now. At the end of the season, my dad buys a several cartons to freeze so that he can enjoy it throughout the year. I’m not that bad, but I do enjoy the stuff.
I will usually purchase a small carton each year and drink it laced with brandy and fresh nutmeg grated on top while admiring the lights on the Christmas tree. It's a tradition. I might have one or two cups a year.
A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
So-Simple Eggnog
½ gal milk, divided 3.4 oz pkg instant vanilla pudding mix ¼ C sugar 2t vanilla ½ t cinnamon ½ t nutmeg
In a large bowl, whisk ¾ C milk & pudding mix until smooth. Whisk in sugar, vanilla & spices until sugar dissolves; stir in remaining milk. Chill 16 servings
HOMEMADE EGGNOG
6 large yolks ½C sugar 1C heavy cream 2C milk 1 ½t nutmeg pinch salt ¼t vanilla 1/8t rum extract
In medium bowl, whisk together yolks & sugar until light & creamy. In saucepan, bring cream, milk, nutmeg & salt to bare simmer, stirring often. Slowly ladle in ½C or so of the hot milk to the egg mixture, whisking vigorously to avoid little bits of cooked egg. This will temper the eggs so they don’t scramble when cooked on the stovetop. Ladle in another ½C, whisking vigorously. Do this until all the hot milk has been added to the eggs & mixture is well combined. Pour the tempered egg mix back into the saucepan of milk on the stove, whisking quickly & cook mixture, stirring constantly, until it reaches 160*. Remove from heat & stir in vanilla & rum extract. Pour into a bowl & cover w/ saran. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.
I love eggnog with lots of nutmeg. I can't wait for the stores here to start carrying it. There is one local dairy who makes it and it's awesome. So much better than the other brands.
