Getting my bitch on today. I'm in that kind of mood. I'm sick of government contractor employees getting angry with the government because we are closing tomorrow. Their employer bills the government for something called fringe rates which covers them on holidays and closings such as this. If their employer forces them to use leave rather than giving them a holiday that's on them, not us. (Sorry if this offends any contractor employees out there).
And I'm dealing with some PTA crap, too. "Girls on the Run?" What about Boys on the Run? We want equality but aren't willing to give it? It's important to foster confidence in everyone. And then there's this stupid Battle of the Books going on at their school which we were told was "voluntary" but now they are requiring every.single.child to buy and wear some stupid t-shirt? Doesn't sound voluntary to me. My boys weren't interested because the books on the list were girlie books and they would rather read something else.
Meeting with a CPA for a small business accounting (and WTF do I do with all this) consult this morning. Fingers crossed she can shed some insight on - again - WTF I am doing with all this.
Biggest questions = why am I double taxing myself and what do I do about capital influx that is required to keep myself up to speed (I'm still only in building stage so there are months when I have to supplement my own wages out of my savings)

End of vent.
Actually there is no "closings" built into fringe rates. At least with the did, support contractor's are told how many hours the can did per man month. All those people have to burn their PTO or take the day off without pay.

Gives an insight into the regular, labor force who doesn't get paid this or that.
I'm in a bitch mood today, too.
No reason, I just hate everyone and everything today.
Temps dropped, here, too.
The yo-yo weather has everyone sniffling.
Need to Christmas up mom's end of the house.

I know this sounds cold, but hourly employees get paid hourly. If they don't put in the hours, they don't get paid. That's the part that sucks about being an hourly employee.
I've been working outside all day in freezing weather so I'm not too happy about that.
Actually I prefer to be an hourly employee because that means I get as much overtime as I want. While I'm getting well paid for coming in extra, salaried employees aren't. (at least, not around my neck of the woods)

The government should be allowing the contractors to work from their employers office or from home.

Support contractors are typically salaried. I was. but employers cannot charge the government for hours not worked. An employee can work extra hours on other days but on such short notice they had only 3 days to make it up. I wouldn't want to work 3 eleven hour days and in one week either.

They do if they are essential and the contracts permit it.
Seriously, though, every little bit is appreciated.
I'm not trying get in the middle of yall.
But I routinely worked 12 to 16 hour days.
Lots of time I worked weeks without a day off.
That's common for regular, working class, people.

I worked without pay here and there during my maternity leave, too. And I have had jobs where I was hourly and paid as such. That's the name of the game.
And I wasn't directing my vent at IKWTDS, and apologize if it appeared that way. I have been verbally flogged IRL for acknowledging that I actually enjoy having a day off every now and then. As if I should have been miserable.
I'd love to go back to being productive and bring in a good pay check. I miss working.
I miss the money, and I miss the freedom.

I know you weren't calling me out. I believe the govt should send an email to all the companies allowing working remotely since this is an unforeseen circumstance

I laughed b/c here the Northern District Bankruptcy Court is closing, but the Middle District is not. Can you tell me how Bankruptcy confirmation hearings, which are routinely re-scheduled, are essential?

In some situations, such as is with my contracts, work is performed at the government site and cannot be done remotely. But yeah, if the contract permits working remotely then that should be an option if the job is essential.

Cold here too, did some Christmas shopping for the kiddos and hope to be all finished by Friday. I'm going to my daughters next week since her husband has to fly overseas for business and since she works nights needs someone to stay with the girls.
We are still working on the house, DH and I aren't agreeing on towel racks and now he doesn't like the new light fixture in our bathroom. I like it so we will see what happens.
So the thing I was waiting to dry, for my SS, just isn't drying.
And it seems that everyone has been unable to resist the urge to touch it.
So, now I will need to go a different route.
Grrrrrr.......

I love having days off too, but there is always that niggling thought in the back of my head about the money that I am spending but not making.
You need a few regular gigs. What is the small biz you want to open?
Yes about the side gigs. The small biz is open - I am a private clinician working under my own business license as a sole proprietor. I have absolutely no idea how to go about paying all the things that I need to pay for. Tax, CPP, MSP, EI etc.
the CPA was helpful today. I likely won't work with her as she was totally disorganized and got the times and locations of our consult wrong more than once. BUT, it turns out that I have been taking out double the taxes that I have needed to. Whew. That wills save me a good chunk going forward.
