I am in need of a will. No, I'm not dying, although some day . . .
I do not have a personal lawyer and really don't have the disposable income to afford one to draw up a will. Has anyone ever used Legal Zoom? Would you advise using such a service for a last will and testament? Is there anything I need to include with drawing up such a document?
I have never tried that but would like to hear how others like it. A friend of mine wants to set up a small business corp and was wondering how well that might work.
You need to check your state for execution requirements. Some allow holographic wills - but they must be entirely handwritten in your writing, signed and dated and not typed, but witness requirements will vary state to state.
Georgia, for example, requires 2 witnesses for a will to be valid - and those witnesses should not be in the will at all or legal heirs, and in order to avoid having to "prove" the will later (getting affidavits from those witnesses), we have self-proving affidavits where a notary certifies the testator's and the two witnesses signatures.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
I don't really have anything, but I do have end of life and funeral/burial instructions.

Vette ~ Ask him if he has that extra $10,000 in a separate savings account, since that is the amount of an average funeral these days.
And how will he be able to support SS on only one income?
And does he really want the State to determine what percentage of his estate will go to you, to SS, and even the ex?
All very good points and exactly why a will is needed and why life insurance is needed.
Vette, does your job have the benefit to buy Life insurance for you hubs and son? Mine does, it's relatively inexpensive as is the legal insurance I have. a few dollars a month. The legal insurance paid the entire legal bill for a trust and will. That would have cost me over $2K without the insurance.
