I just learned about a phobia that I never knew existed, trypophobia. But ever since I looked it up I have become obsessed. It literally makes me sick to my stomach and it's very upsetting to me. I have to get this out of my head. I have seriously considered making an appointment with my therapist. I don't know what to do! I had nightmares last night about it even. Any coping mechanisms are welcome!

A fear of holes and patterns. Vette just take a deep breath and focus on items that bring you joy and other things to take your mind off of it. Play Christian music, Pray and give it to God, read scriptures.
I looked it up and it is kind of strange and we all have something that makes us go ewww!
Yes, get concentrated on something else. Break that thought that is holding you to this phobia. Do something for a neighbor or someone else; go outside and garden a bit, anything. This is one of the curses of the internet - you look up something and suddenly you begin to think you have the symptoms. Hope you can get through this.
If this is something that is affecting you and your enjoyment of life then I think you should look into Cognitive Behavior Therapy and go talk to someone to give you strategies to work it through. I don't think I am qualified on a message board to tell you the best way to deal with that. I think sometimes these things are tied into general anxiety, stress or depression as well. But, I really think the best way to go is to just go seek some professional help.
It is interesting that if we have a broken leg, we will immediately go to the ER for physical help. But, if we are having struggles with our mental or emotional health, we are far less likely to seek help, even though those things have a huge impact on our daily lives.
I am sure this is very treatable with the right help! You can do this.
I understood vette post in that it just now bothered her and wanted ways to take her focus of of it. I do agree that if it continues to affect your life look into what lady Gaga said.
I mean, I honestly have never heard of this until today. So, I dont' know how much the phobia is bothering her. I dont' think there is a need to "get over it" and I am not sure anyone really gets over their phobias. I think learning to manage it in a healthy way is probably what would help the most.
I'm not sure I have any "phobias." Although I did have a fear of skydiving and skiing. So I did both, just to face them head on. I found that I enjoyed both.
If this is something that only just manifested after learning of the word and what it is, I'd think it's a self imposed thing.
Almost like a hypochondriac situation.
If that's the case, you pretty much created this on your own.
So, I would think you could deal with it on your own.
Maybe give your self time to process it.
Could it be a symptom of something else you already live with?
( I'm not trying to be mean, I just remember you talking about other issues you have been controlling.)
