When dad gets back, going to the grocery store, then home.
I'm thinking something cool and easy for dinner tonight.

what a great busy day. Among other errands took DD to the mall to look for a few last items we need for Ireland. DD said the formal dress we bought for the wedding she thought might be a bit too fancy too fancy to also wear to her 8th grade formal which was the original plan. I took her to Macy's to finer dress department. Not a lot left since it is after Prom season but we found this great dress, Crimson, that looks beautiful on her. It's a shorter dress but not slutty short and has a great skirt to it. Will have to post pics the night of the dance.
Went to Lowe's and bought a few bags of black mulch, I am going to try the black in one area and see how I like the color. If I like it, I will get about 5 yards more for all the other areas. Neighbors coming over tomorrow to help take down the tree that split in half. I have great neighbors for sure.

Hot and humid here, too. The thing about weeding is that, no matter how good a job you do, they grow back in the blink of an eye.... Weeds seem to always be healthy while plants, flowers, etc..... well....

I know that.

A sweet lady got suckered into buying
an 87 orchard of mature pecan trees
when her husband died, telling her it
would be a great "investment" ! Not
being physically able to care for the
trees, she's had to hire lots of manual
help to harvest the nuts, crack & shell
the nuts, and then sell them.
There's a wonderful opportunity to sell
pecan halves, but it takes a lot of physical
effort to clean and sort the nuts. She has
a lot of fabulous recipes for dipped nuts,
and pralines. She usually hires ladies to
clean and sort the nuts, giving them an
assortment of the (expensive) nuts.
I'm just happy to earn couple of bags of
nuts to give to my friends, when I help
her clean and sort them.
She has a wonderful "farmer's market"
set up that DH and I rent every year. ...
a large shed, complete with electricity
and a refrigerator!. No worries about
sun or rain !
She's had her property on the market
for the last three years, but we worry
about her being able to sell it at her
asking price
I have so much ground to cover, weed-wise, that I use roundup. (Sorry LL) I buy the granules and mix it myself. I find I need to spray once or twice a week in the back to keep up. The ground cover I planted is spreading more which helps with weed control. Each year I continue to dig up some of the ground cover that has spread under plants and relocate it to areas where it's needed. That helps with erosion on the slopes and keeps us from having to mulch as much.
My great grandmother used to have walnut trees in Modesto, CA. My grandfather would pick them in bagfuls and bring them home, shell them, and give them to us every year. We would make banana nut bread, cookies, etc., and freeze what went unused for later in the year. We looked forward to those shelled nuts every year! I can't look at a walnut without picturing him walking in with bags of shelled nuts and a big smile on his face.

I used preen in a large area at before weeds sprouted and it certainly helped.
