Almost 100 firebugs have deliberately started blazes across Queensland that have destroyed homes and consumed thousands of hectares of bushland.

Some 65 fires continued to burn across the state on Friday, jumping from 55 reported on Thursday, as the fire threat deepened heading into the weekend.

As firefighters remained on high alert, police revealed 103 of the destructive fires that had lashed Queensland since September were deliberately lit.

Figures obtained by AAP revealed police had dealt with 98 people - 31 adults and 67 juveniles - for deliberately setting fires.

A 16-year-old boy found to have started a fire that razed 14 homes in central Queensland and dealt with under the state's Youth Justice Act.

Two more teens, 14 and 15, were charged with endangering property by fire over a blaze that destroyed two homes and forced hundreds to flee.

More than 120 fires are still being investigated and more people could be charged.

The firebug revelations come as fire crews continue to face challenging conditions as a strong upper ridge sweeping across the south-east combines with fresh east northeasterly winds on Friday.

The volatile conditions prompted the weather bureau to reissue a severe fire warning for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Central Highlands and Coalfields, and the eastern parts of the Warrego and Maranoa districts on Friday.

Areas of localised severe fire danger are in place for the eastern parts of the Central West district.

Residents in Cainbable, west of the Gold Coast, have been told to prepare to leave, as a bushfire in the Lamington National Park continues to threaten properties.

Firefighters continued to keep watch on the dangerous fire burning on multiple fronts at Lowmead near Gladstone, where authorities confirmed three homes were lost earlier in the week.

The eastern side of the fire was burning in the vicinity of Cross Road, Hills Road, Whytallabah Road and Kirkpatrick Road.

Firefighters will continue to work with heavy machinery and waterbombing aircraft to strengthen containment lines.

Sunshine Coast residents remain on alert after being forced to evacuate a volatile bushfire on Wednesday.

Forty-three homes have been destroyed in Queensland since August 1, as fires blackened more than 240,000 hectares of land.

Conditions were forecast to improve along the Queensland coast into next week but residents across the state should remain on alert about the fire and heat warnings, the Bureau of Meteorology said.

"It is vital not to become complacent when hearing these continued warnings,' forecaster Rosa Hoff told media on Friday

"The danger is as real as it was the first day we experienced it in Queensland."

This is really sad. The article is a few weeks old. One I came across this morning stated nearly 200 people have been arrested for arson, not the 100 or so listed in the article.

MSM is not covering this. Why? My theory is they want the fires to continue to be labeled as started by climate change. Part of that theory is climate change activists are so set on wanting climate change to wreck the world they are setting the fires.

Bottom line is these fires are not started by climate change. So criminal.

Wasn't Jennifer Aniston, whose only claim to fame was a crappy haircut on a TV show and Aveno commercials, claiming on that award show last night that the fires were caused by climate change? Which means it must be true.

This is on the news daily here. Seems like Australia will be forever changed by these fires. Occurring in some of the most highly populated areas. And no respite in sight. No rain, etc. The heat from the fires is causing more "heat lightening" . Evidently the temperatures are so high that planes dropping water over the area have had to be cancelled and the water evaporates anyway before reaching the fire. The whole thing sounds like a horror story or a B rated movie. Really feel sorry for the people who are losing their homes, jobs, etc....

There used to a lot of effort in Forestry management to prevent fires, esp out in California, etc. Now, that the environuts have taken control that went by the wayside. Not sure what their practices are in Australia but obviously there should have been some type of management that would have prevented such a catastrophe. But, it's easier to blame your deodorant and hairspray.

So true, you can’t do any preemptive controlled fires anymore.

What could possibly be the
reason for these arsonists to
set these fires? They know,
(or should know) that they
will be found and arrested,
and their "agenda" will be
divulged.

You just can't fix stupid.

Climate change does not set fires, people set fires. Something lightening or a hot piece of metal flung from a passing vehicle, but most fires are accidental if not set deliberately.
Australia is a desert continent for the most part and always has been. You can’t change Australia’s climate. It is what it is.

It is very dry in that region and has been for months so easy for fires to become uncontrollable.  Some fires are set by kids (happens this time of year), some due to farmers  readying their fields for growing season; they burn the latest dead crop to prepare the land for future plantings.  It is estimated that at least half the fires were due to other people committing arson.  I can guess at which group or groups did that.

I don't think you can do forest management in a desert climate. It's so hot there that everything is dry and basically kindling. That's the time of year it is. It totally takes away from the climate change arguement when it continues under conditions that are obviously not that. Kids with matches and tinder are not climate change.

It's like the Tea Fire that nearly wiped out santa Barbara when I lived there. It wasn't climate change, it was kids with matches who lit a fire that hit eucalyptus trees that exploded from the oil and the fire was out of control. Not climate change. Kids with matches around highly flammable material. The Elephant Hill fire that took out most of my area 2 years ago was kids with matches. Nobody claimed climate change. Because it was kids with matches.

Maybe it's hard to go back and say ... "sorry, we were wrong. It's not climate change".

I just cringe at the loss of wildlife.
I think the losses will put some of
the species on the endangered list.
I know that the US has send several
brigades of experienced firefighters
to Australia. I hope they will be able
to help the Australians bring these
fires under control, with no injuries
or loss of life.
