The sun is shinning through a layer of grey clouds. It actually hurts your eyes. It's a regular heat wave, too! 12 degrees warmer today.
Happy Wednesday!

I wish Amazon had a section called 'cool stuff to browse' so that I could just poke around and see if there is anything that I want to spontaneously order.
Whenever I'm out, I love going through the clearance aisles, or a thrift store, Dollar Tree, what have you, just to see if there is anything I can't live without.
Did you know in the state of Georgia, if a couple is not married when they have a baby, the father doesn't have any legal rights?

Yep. He will have to pay to legitimize her. I really don't see him doing that.

I opened bacon to make potato soup the other night, so I had to cook it today. Well, now I'm cooking burgers in the bacon grease.
Yeah. So healthy, I know.

My mom uses bacon grease to make pancakes. I would, too, but I don't store the grease in the refrigerator because my can is big and it takes up too much room. I really should get a smaller can to store the grease in!

Nice day here. Cold, but pretty outside. And I have meetings which prevent me from going out.
The deals of the day are never very exciting. You know those 'collections' online of 'strange things' or 'the coolest things' to buy on Amazon? I think they need a section like that.
FNW ~
When my bacon drippings have
cooled, I pour them into a clean
(disposable) water bottle. It
has a cap, so no spillage, and
you can see exactly how much
you have.
I get to work from home tomorrow afternoon. I'm looking forward to it. No bus!!
My brother was officially written out of the will. Effective this week.
Oooo Back story? What dastardly deeds did he commit?
You know what? It's really not all that interesting! I think it's funny that it's gone this far, but it's not that interesting. You guys know that for years Christmas has been a big problem for me. Am I involved, will I be invovled, do I want to be involved, etc. etc. etc. (Lily called it whining). Most of that revolved around the brother. He's an *******. And not just an *******, but a mean one who takes any opportunity to be hurtful or mean. I think he gets a charge out of it. For me, it's not just at Christmas - it's whenever we're together but Christmas is really the only time I'm around him for more than a few hours.
I solved the Christmas problem the year before last (or thought I did) for myself by going to the destination Christmas but staying with friends instead of with the fam. Literally - my friends know my brother because we lived in a small town and were honestly completely understanding when I asked to stay with them. They were also hosting their (kinda big) family so there wasn't much space and I slept on the floor under the tree. The brother has only ever treated me like this (and I'm guessing various other non-family people) and it's been going on for years. And been encouraged by my family inadvertently, like they would see something but then tell me it wasn't a big deal or whatever, which gave him free license.
THIS year though, he pulled that crap on my parents. For 6 days. I'd go into a full explanation, but it's pretty convoluted and bad enough that he's booted from the family, so lets just go with 'really really bad'. My mom called him out. Which I'm sure was the worst thing in the world for him, because he's always been coddled and excused. And the REACTION!!! And not just him, but his gf as well. She threw and epic tantrum.
Fast forward. Nothing has gotten better. He sent my parents a letter outlining that he had been treated poorly and was not going to have any contact with them until he was treated better. And then a bunch of other demands and crap. Even better, he's a lawyer, and it read like a brief! Then a few months later whatever else happend happendd, and they were in touch again (not in a good way - something family-ish happened) and after the gf sent my parent a nasty (long) email telling them how terrible they were and how horribly they treated him etc, etc, etc. Which is one thing, but she copied it to EVERYBODY in her family. her dad/stepmpm, mom/stepdad, aunts, uncles, cousins whatever. Nobody my family has even met. And then a bunch of other stuff. There was some other email I don't have details on, but he told them he'd welcome them back into his lives if they got counselling. (my mom misinterpreted this and thought HE was getting counselling and wanted her invovled at some point and offered that to him. I laughed a lot)
Now, because he's a lawyer, he's been the executor and whatever else of my parent's wills (I don't know what the other roles are) and I've not been involved o rhad knowledge of their wishes (because he's all-perfect). So, because my parents are quite elderly and have been diagnosed with some serious health issues they figure they need will need to use the wills sooner rather than later, and because he's decided he doesn't want to be part of the family, the had to change the details. So they told him that, and in return got another legal letter telling them that he was relinquishing all responsibility to them and blah blah whatever.
So, when they changed the executor status (it's third party now, just to be clean) they also changed his status as a beneficiary. They figure if he doesn't want to be involved with the family why should he be considered?
So yeah. Short story. It sounds pretty lame, but just assume that it was much worse. Lots worse than what you are reading.
Tig, I do not blame your parents at all, he had no excuse to act that way to anyone, especially his parents. His girlfriend definitely had no right whatsoever to berate your parents via email much less to all your family members. I feel the only one she made to look bad is herself, not your parents.
Tig, that is one horrible story even without the "real" detail. Your brother sounds like an entitled ass. I am thankful your parents woke up to is behavior and cut him out of being in control. So sorry. I just really think that being a family member is not an excuse for being toxic and thinking the toxic person has to remain in your life forever.

My parents figured that she had a lot to do with the exacerbation of this behaviour and think that she might have been behind some of the weird emails (as much of an ass as he is, I don't think he would start writing legal briefs to my parents. That's just strange) so have been sending most correspondence to his workplace. The last brief had something to do with 'due to the volume and nature of my work I can no longer accept personal mail. You have my home address and I would prefer to be contacted at that address' and then more crap about 'enforcing boundaries'. My guess is that the gf wrote it. The last paragraph was even weirder 'thank you for the good wishes on my birthday. We were able to spend some time in -city- enjoying their amenities'.
That said, I knew nothing of this part until last week. But it explains why the birthday card I sent him (I actually don't have his address) there was returned with a moved/unknown sticker on it. No words, no thank you but please send stuff to my home address, just rejection.
I (now that I know this) messaged to let him know that his card had been returned and had he actually moved. He told me that the address I had must have been his old box # that he used before buying his house. I said that that must be it because it started with #200 and houses don't usually have a unit number and why didn't I figure it out. No response. I think I'll just stick it in another envelope and send it to him. Sticker and all.
Also, weirdly, he knew that I was away for New Years and commented on it in a text. Nobody told him that, which means that his gf (he doesn't have a profile) has been fb stalking me. Blocked.

When I was writing that I read it back and thought 'wow! I'm describing a sociopath!'. (not so much in the words I wrote but in the full picture with all the other details filled in).
Wow. I'm sorry, tig. Does the gf work with him? How would she have access to his work email?
They used to work together, not anymore. She is/was a paralegal when they met. Now she doesn't do anything (but that's a whole different story). So yes, it is a possibility that she's doing it.
I don't know if he'll challenge. Probably. That's why everything has gone third party. My parents don't want me to have to deal with him.
