Actually it is how most countries handle "it"

I've travelled pretty extensively in europe and asia, and I don't think I've ever seen a country walled off. Berlin, sure, but that's done. Great wall of China? Yes, but not really. Customs and stuff yes absolutely. Had my passport scrutinized many times. I've never seen a wall.

I've seen one in Norwich, England. I understand there's one between Greece and Turkey. Turkey and Syria. Turkey and Bulgaria. I've seen a beautiful one around Vatican City. I understand there is the West Bank Wall built by Israel.

Walls are used and are effective.

I think it is only Turkey & Syria. Greece and the Vatican city have walls that date back to early centuries. I don't think they count anymore. There is no customs to get into Vatican city.

Um, I'm not arguing the not-importance of walls. I'm simply saying that very few other countries do this, while CHAZ should. I don't think living in a country that borders mexico gives one the only power to talk about border walls. Put a wall around CHAZ. It's what they want. Problem solved.

Absolutely. And if they are not going to do anything about it, it's time for the rest of the country to flat out abandon them. They want to be autonomous? Build your own power plants, grow your own food, and I'm sure there's some nurses and EMTs in there with them. Let them deal with their problems themselves. People get hungry - they will go home.

I didn't know about it until I was working the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta on 6/19/92...WOW...Eye opening.

Our governor has declared it a state holiday. Whatever. I don't care one way or another. They want to celebrate it? Fine with me.

I learned about it about 15 years ago. I was working for DOJ and they had trivia contests once a week during the various months. During Black History Month they had a trivia question on it. Basically whoever could google the answer the fastest and respond first would get a prize. I won a really nice African mask carved from wood. I have it on a display shelf in my office. Anyway, that's when and where I learned about Juneteenth. DH had never heard of it before until last week when I told him about it. It came up because Trump rescheduled one of his rallies which had been scheduled on the 19th and out of respect he changed it to the 20th. This was before the governor decided to try to one up him.

Don't think the war of 1812 counts as a win for Canada. It was a war with Britain, and ended in a stalemate. Canada didn't even become an independent country until 1867 (and that's debatable - some say it wasn't until 1931).
The U.S. has won a lot of wars and not sold anyone into slavery. But the point was that the Africans were a great factor in selling their own people into slavery - it's not just the white man at fault for slavery.
