Trump orders chokehold ban except when officers' lives are at risk and sets up bad cops register - but insists there are only 'tiny' numbers of bad police
Donald Trump unveil his executive order on police reform from the Rose Garden on Tuesday afternoon
The order will ban chokeholds except in life threatening situations and create a database of bad actor police
The president's remarks sharing details of the order came after he met with families whose loved ones fell victim to police brutality
Among those the president met included Ahmaud Arbery's family but none of those he met with were photographed with him in the Rose Garden
A new program in the order requires, in certain situations, that social workers respond to the scene alongside police officers
The order comes three weeks after nationwide protests and riots over the death of George Floyd and rising tensions between black people and cops
Trump asserted that there will be no more looting or riots – and asserted there would be a 'grave penalty' for those caught
But speech also did not name any of the victims of police violence in recent weeks, particularly Floyd
Democrats said his move falls far short of what is needed to reform police
The police are run by local government - it is the local government's job to train and reform their departments. And FYI - the City of Minneapolis is run by Democrats. None of this is Trump's fault and I'm tired of Democrats screwing everything up and then blaming Trump for not doing enough to fix it.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
I don't agree with banning a chokehold. I think there are times they need to do that to take someone down. I think better training about how to long to apply and it when to remove it would make more sense. Cops should not have to stop and think, oh is it ok to use that now?
However a lot of police are resigning. I think this is another plan of the Left. Force Police off their jobs, then create a Nationalized Police Force.
*shrug* Canada has a national police force. Each municipality also has their own. The responsibilities of each are very clearly delineated. So, Vancouver has the RCMP and the Vancouver Police. 90% of things are covered by the municipal police. The other 10 is specialized. Rural areas or communities are covered by the RCMP and reserve land (depending on size) also have their own police force.
They did say that chokeholds can be used if the officer's life is in danger.
When I was studying martial arts with a couple cop friends, they did a choke hold on me. I was to tap his arm as I started to pass out which I did and he stopped. But it was very effective and not painful in the least.

That’s nice. I don’t want to live in Canada. No thanks.

Not invited. Post wasn't on that. Too bad you can't keep on the discussion instead of trying to pick at me. Federal police departments in addition to municipal work.
It goes city, county, state, federal. It's no different.

I didn't realize that you were Canada. How about that.

How about I'm informed. And not living in a country that is in the midst of riots and anarchy? Our leaders and police seem to be doing a great job.

You rarely seem "informed" as you often don't seem to know what news stories I am referencing, but whatevs. As for riots and anarchy, we have a far more heterogenous country than do you.
I do think we need Police Reform. Police need more training in de-escalating situations. They need training in dealing with the mentally ill, drug addicts, alzhemers and many other social issues. We need to fund more mental health that allows involuntary holds and commitments of those having mental health issues. We may need more social workers. Maybe there needs to be some on-call social workers who with the Police Dept.
A big part of police work used to be to build Public Trust. To become part of the community. To be seen as a trusted resource and role model and to create some community bonds. And, that doesn't mean they arrested every crime or took someone in or had to slam them to the ground. They were diplomats and peace makers. There are absolutely times when they need to shoot to kill or body slam someone or tase them. Yes, of course. But, it seems there could be a bit different approach to Non Violent type situations.

Teach their kids right and wrong, give real consequences again.
I think there should be a mandatory 2year service requirement for everyone at age 18. In some kind of civil duty.

I agree. And that requires more funding, not less.
